The Frantz Fanon Hotel is a very good hotel, well located behind the well-known Ain Fouara fountain in Setif. I've been staying there regularly for about ten years, and I've always been well received because the Algerians know how to welcome you. The hotel is close to Setif Airport, which you can get there by taxi. Once there, you can take the tram to the Bouzid Saal stop. The hotel is quiet, and the rooms are a good size with walk-in showers. The linens are clean, and the bed is comfortable. The amusement park, museums, and a large shopping center are nearby, so you won't be disoriented, with its large hypermarket.

Algeria is a beautiful country, but the hospitality industry is not yet well developed. Hotels can be an adventure, especially if you are traveling on a budget. After staying in some questionable hotels in other cities, I was delighted at the reception and facilities of the Hôtel Frantz Fanon. This is a fairly new hotel, so there aren't many reviews of it yet. If you are planning a visit to Sétif, this should be your address. The rooms were clean, modern, air-conditioned, and very reasonable. Comfortable bed, nice work desk and chair, television, spacious closets, and the cleanest bathroom I saw in an Algerian hotel. (The housekeeping staff does a good job.) The staff was friendly and helpful, I immediately felt at home there. The manager was very kind and accommodating. My room was on one of the upper floors, with a nice balcony and a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. I enjoyed the breakfast pastries, coffee, and juice in the pleasant restaurant area each morning. Wireless internet service is included. I didn't have my laptop with me, and was allowed to use a house computer in the lower level. The Frantz Fanon also has nice facilities if you need to organize meetings. The location is fairly central but it might be tricky to locate when you first arrive. You will find it at the corner of Fida and Frantz Fanon Streets. One can easily explore the town center on foot from the hotel. Slept very well for three nights, enjoyed my room. I was traveling with a colleague who shares my positive assessment of this hotel. I look forward to my next visit!

I'll remember the Frantz Fanon hotel because of its warm welcome and the excellent food. The owner was present, welcoming in a nice understated and hospitable way and an honest and engaging talker. The Maitre d' was equally friendly, professional and humorous. The food was very, very good. The couscous, in particular, left one wanting more. It was cooked with very fine couscous and tender lamb. this hotel is not flashy in any sense but is honest, clean, has a cool modernist facade and is genuinely welcoming.

If you visit Algeria as a package-tour tourist, you'll invariably end up in state-run hotels. This needn't be always bad, in fact, Algiers' El-Djazair is a fine example for a state-run hotel which is just perfect. Yet most of the time, those hotel tend to be run-down, the service communist-style (i.e. correct, but far from cordial), and they don't have much of a soul, if you can understand what I mean. Hotel Frantz Fanon was a most pleasant change! It is a private-run property with really affectionate, genuine friendliness. The owner memorised all our names in no time and was proud to address us by name. The rooms sported new interiors, and everything was excepionally clean (which is saying a lot for Algeria).The private bathroom too was in perfect shape. The hotel is located in Setif centre which makes it a perfect base for some walkes through the main street. However, there are two downsides: - The hotel doesn't sell alcohol (even if Algeria used to be the world's greatest wine exporter, it can be difficult today to get wine, and often, hotels sell them; this hotel doesn't unfortunately) - The doors aren't soundproof which may pose a problem if you stay too near to the lift because it opens with a loud jingle. However, we did sleep perfectly well in this hotel because the mattrasses were just perfect. Therefore, this hotel is wholeheartedly recommended for anyone who intends to stay in Setif.
