A fun experience that we both absolutely loved. Getting to see the animals behaving around dawn and dusk, at times when the zoo is normally closed, was very special, and the staff who gave the tours were very knowledgeable. The campsite setting is beautiful and makes it feel as though you're really on safari. We would highly recommend this experience to others.

“Educational comfort”

The staff were were very friendly and knowledgeable. The an accommodation was comfortable. A nice dinner and breakfast that catered for all tastes . The zoo access was a nice bonus inclusion. Hearing the male lions calling at night, amazing.

Billabong Camp offers a unique way to experience the zoo, but overall we found it quite expensive for what you get. We quickly realised the entire zoo can comfortably be explored in a single day, so two full days isn't really necessary unless you want to do a lot of the additional add on experiences. What made the experience memorable, however, was the evening tour—getting to see some of the animals become more active as the sun goes down was definitely a highlight. The tents were basic but comfortable. It would have been helpful to know in advance that there’s no lighting inside and that only bedding and towels are provided—nothing else. A little more information ahead of time would have helped us prepare better. The BBQ dinner was decent, but it was cooked off-site and brought in, which took away from what could have been a fun, social experience around the campfire with other guests. All in all, a good concept with some special moments, but in our opinion, the overall value didn’t quite justify the high cost and we would not likely do this again.

“Expensive for a disappointing experience”

We recently stayed at Billabong camp for Easter , hoping to experience a safari . Pros - the staff were lovely and friendly. We travelled 2 adults 1 child got there and they had my daughter sleeping on the floor just a thin mattress no stretcher and not informed about this at booking time. The st… lisää

We recently stayed at Billabong camp for Easter , hoping to experience a safari . Pros - the staff were lovely and friendly. We travelled 2 adults 1 child got there and they had my daughter sleeping on the floor just a thin mattress no stretcher and not informed about this at booking time. The staff were so lovely and accommodating and managed to move us so my daughter could have a stretcher to sleep on Bedding supplied at this time of year was adequate - pillows were very soft so bring your own. Towels also supplied after mix up with housekeeping Cons Do not being a white light the animals don’t like this and you can’t use it on the tour in the enclosure. Bring a torch that has a red light - it made it difficult to navigate the terrain when in enclosures Safari This is a bit that is disappointing - the tours are a hit and miss - got down to the lion enclosure and the lions are down the back waiting to go in. So telling my child down at the back where you see some dirt is a lion . You are paying premium prices to experience the animals after dark and while I understand you can’t control them I feel the zoo should have a Plan B back up. Seems to be no forethought. The evening nocturnal animals again couldn’t find them in the trees. Bit disappointing. Toilets 75 people camping and only 5 bathrooms unisex .. no separate toilets and definitely not enough for such a big group of people . Overall disappointing experience. It’s a expensive camping experience
