Old so small rooms, no en suite, beer is cold, showers are hot, bed is comfortable, food is great. Continental breakfast is included

Awesome place to stay, been here twice. Food was perfect all 4 times we ate there and coffee was amazing! Staff are awesome and local are heaps of fun to chat with. Get up there and stay the night and enjoy great food. Be back soon.

“Room with a View”

We chose to stay in the lovely Juliet on-suite room with its bonus view of overlooking the Waratah waterfall. A really nice outlook, but at a price that is expensive for this part of Tasmania. We chose to stay in the lovely Juliet on-suite room with its bonus view of overlooking the Waratah waterfall. A really nice outlook, but at a price that is expensive for this part of Tasmania. The room was also quite small with the on-suite very tiny, but that might be expected of an older hotel. It was certainly VERY tastefully decorated and furnished. A credit to the owners, but we found the bed to be a let-down. Also the windows could not be opened. The body of the hotel being an older building was reasonably cold, but our Juliet room was O.K. We dined in the "bistro" (adjacent to the bar) and found the meals to be pretty good - particularly good value. Breakfast was included in our tarrif with fresh cooked options available at an additional price. However, we found the continental offering in the dining room to be more than adequate. Again, that was a colder part of the building, so definitely not a pyjamas dress code! Overall. Pretty good. Where-else can you see a REAL waterfall changing colours right outside your bedroom window?

This relic of the early 1900’s is the heart and sole of Waratah,and like the town itself,has seen better days.Our room came with it’s own bathroom and a waterfall view.Room was small,maybe 15 sq metres.It is unfair to compare an old country hotel to a modern city hotel.It cannot be held to the same standards.But there were numerous instances where it is reasonable to expect better.The mattress was very old and sagged inwards.The windows were made to be opened but could not be.The instant coffee in the room was literally past it’s use by date-by two years.But there is no denying it is atmospheric with old wood panelling,coloured glass window,high ceiling downstairs and bits of memorabilia such as the shattered prop from an early plane crash near Waratah.That should not excuse or make up for short comings such as those noted,especially as it was quite expensive.
