“Two nights of Japanese serenity”

My husband and I have just completed a two night stay at Shizuka Ryokan during which we were immersed in Japanese beauty, serenity, kindness and care. Our bamboo room was lovely with sliding doors out to a tiny private Japanese courtyard allowing the crisp Hepburn air in, and the soothing sounds of the water feature and the local kookaburras. Our Japanese style breakfasts and dinner were reminiscent of our travels through Japan and were wonderful, very authentic soul food, so fresh and full of flavour. We had three treatments each, Geisha facial, Yoga/meditation and massage, all were the best we’ve experienced, so nurturing and healing. While all of our practitioners were amazing, Renee was a standout for me doing two of my treatments and providing such care, safety and healing. We had amazing coffee at Lotte and dinner on our second night at the Surly Goat both in Hepburn Springs. All in all a magical two night stay, already planning our next trip.

Shizuka Ryokan is a little touch of Japan in country Victoria. The rooms are perfectly simple, comfortable and Zen; the food is amazing; and best of all is the friendly and attentive service (most of the staff are Japanese-born, living in Australia). I attended one of the seasonal yoga retreats with in-house instructor Renee and it was the perfect mix of rest, reflection and activity. Highly recommended.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Shizuka Ryokan. The experience was exactly what we had expected, from check in to check out. Some of my friends and relatives thought we were actually in Japan! The room was spacious and beautifully presented. The tatami was just the right thickness, while the bath was simply relaxing. The breakfasts were so filling we skipped lunch on 2 of the days we were there, and the dinner was absolutely delicious. All the staff were very attentive. I could see that they enjoy what they do and love interacting with guests. I look forward to staying at Shizuka Ryokan again in the future.
