Lovely old building in a great location. Cool pool, shaded from the worst of the sun by high walls on each side and some scenic greenery (in which we saw a humming-bird twice). Lovely old building in a great location. Cool pool, shaded from the worst of the sun by high walls on each side and some scenic greenery (in which we saw a humming-bird twice). Great breakfast, once you work out how the menu works. Very friendly staff, although getting information about tourist outings is like getting blood out of a stone. While we were there there was a fire and we were evacuated in the middle of the night. Fortunately no-one was hurt, but they could at least have given us a voucher for the restaurant. Or a free drink at the bar.

Ups: spacious rooms beautiful natural decor (wood, green, neutral colors) great bed beautiful pool and landscaping great toiletries enormous bathroom friendly and helpful staff just steps from the Amazonas' Theater about 20min from the airport (if not during rush hour) best restaurant in town (of local food) in the same block lots of bars with live music just around the corner (but you won't be bothered by them) great coffee for breakfast and food was good too good wifi, AC and shower has a little gym Downs: bath towels smelled funny you can hear almost everything from the room next door homeless people all around the area (though we felt safe, wouldn't recommend for a woman to walk around by herself at night). Security guard by the door. food is really expensive for Brazilian standards. A grilled cheese sandwich was 76 reais in Jan/26 (about 14 USD) and a burger was 92 reais (about 17 USD). A grilled cheese sandwich at a nice bakery would cost less than half of that. And at a simple basic bakery, a tenth of that.
