“Surprisingly good stop on Rio de Janeiro - Brasília road”

We often drive from Brasília to the city of Patos de Minas and Paracatu is halfway on a less than 300 mile trip. Usually we don't stop, but on this particular day we left Brasília late and we weren´t confident about finding easy going all the way to Patos - on this day we just saw too many careless drivers and potential life-threatening close calls. So we saw that per TripAdvisor this was the best hotel in town and chose to stop. A good choice it was. 1st of all, the location is quite good, really close to the main highway (BR-040), but without sounds of the road, and by car extremely close to "downtown" - which isn't too difficult, since Paracatu not such a large city. Secondly, though I believe the hotel could emphasize it more on its site, there's a fairly large garage in basement area, which for a family traveling with luggage and who would just take out a few things from the car left us feeling much more at ease. Third, everyone at the hotel is naturally friendly. I can't say how their English skills are, though, but I can say menus and some signage could use some translation-review some day - about 20-30% not so well-translated, though I imagine main message comes across. The rooms do have small maintenance issues - a hook in the bathroom which was torn out, a soap holder that's not holding soaps anymore. But minor issues considering overall good quality of rooms and hotel. I enjoyed sound of roosters and birds in early morning. Excellent that breakfast starts at 6 a.m. Actually quite a few options at buffet, nothing truly exceptional, but once again, considering values (we negotiated directly at front desk and got room for 3 for R$ 230), it certainly stands out among regional hotels. Coffee itself, however, was really awful, especially saddening since this region is known for excellent coffee. Dinner was actually better than breakfast, though no buffet like it must have when it's busier. Fish parmeggiana and chicken cream soup Brazilian-style well-served. No bar service, but we ended up getting a jar of freshly made OJ. I didn't ask if they could make caipirinhas, though, but they're not on menu. The lobby area - with lots of seating - is very inviting. But there aren't enough plug ins for eventually keeping laptop energized. But free wifi works quite well in all areas (at least ground floor & 1st floor). If you're tired on the road or need to come to Paracatu for business, don't hesitate to choose this place. You all have a safe and fun Xmas and Year End season!

In the town of Paracatu you probably won't get better accommodation than at the Paracatu Plaza Hotel. The hotel has all of the amenities you would expect with free WiFi throughout. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and all rooms have air-conditioning. The food is basic but will fill all the voids. Ask for a room high up and try to get the low nimbers.

This seems to be the best hotel in Paracatu, you can see many people going for business - specially those ones coming to the mine. This seems to be the best hotel in Paracatu, you can see many people going for business - specially those ones coming to the mine. Nevertheless, the quality of the rooms is not good, they are small and not very comfortable, if this hotel was located in a big city this will be below standard for sure. The hotel has a nice lobby area, and the restaurant is pretty good - specially considering that there are not many really decent places to dine in Paracatu. Also, you can walk from here to the main street (10 minutes away).

Stayed here for three nights. Good breakfast buffet with omelette cooked to order. Choice of pastries, fresh fruit, cheese, cold meat and juice. Evening service was very slow on one day; the other day we tried the buffet which was included a range of hot dishes and salad items. Bed was comfortable. Air conditioner did not work very well and fortunately it was not too hot. WIFI seemed slower in the evening with more guests likely on-line. Overall pleasant stay. Friendly front desk staff.
