So much potential here but so much lacking. The chaotic bar scenario where my guests were unable to buy wine in the reception bar and were sent to the restaurant bar only to find a selection of three. The food being ok, not great. On the flip side check in was easy and my room was clean and in good order. Perfect for events at RioCentro. Wouldn’t choose to stay here for any other reason.

Along with another reviewer, Terri B, I was at Lagune Barra Hotel for the same business meeting with my husband as well. I must concur with her review of the room as we had the same smell of mold. Fortunately, we were able to change our room after a couple of days. The smell of the first room, wasn't entirely noticeable until hours after arriving and unpacking our belongings, scouting out the area and then returning to the hotel. I woke up during the night, smelling something off like a moldy/mildewy scent in the air. When I questioned my husband about his take of the "aroma", he felt it was ever so faint, but would agree that he could detect something. The next morning, it was very evident that a moldy smell had permeated the room. I asked the front desk to switch our accommodations, which they immediately did. I also requested that someone come up to the room and verify what I believed was emanating from the ceiling a/c unit. He immediately noticed what I suspected as soon as he walked in and agreed that it was likely coming from the A/C vent. The new room on a different floor still had an odor about it, however it wasn't as strong as the original. My hair even after multiple washings still retained the moldy smell, when at the hotel. It has taken me nearly 2 weeks, since returning home, to wash and rewash the clothes that took on that stench. It was necessary to throw out a few articles of clothing that I just could not get clean. Anything that was some kind of plastic, or nylon fabric (i.e. luggage) including my glasses, took on the odor. I had to toss out my carry on bag once arriving home and will likely do the same for my suitcase as the smell still remains. On a more positive note...staying at the Lagune Barra Hotel we had interactions with some very friendly and accommodating staff/personnel. The breakfast and lunch buffets had enough to choose from, but did not vary in their daily offerings. The property was clean and the beds comfortable. It was located next to the convention center where the conference was held, which made walking over very easy and safe. It should be noted that the hotel is not near any of the areas of interest one might want to see in Rio, which requires the guest to take a cab or ride share to go anywhere. The security personnel, the ones we could easily communicate with, suggested not to stray too far from the grounds alone.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference. The entrance of the hotel was not particularly appealing, but the lobby area looked nice. I understand that the reason this hotel was chosen for the conference was because it was adjacent to the conference center which was able to accommodate the number of people that would be in attendance. Once again the convention/conference center was nice on the inside but again not appealing from outside. After staying in our room for 1-2 days, I noticed a mildew smell that began to permeate my clothing, cloth carry-on bag and even items such as a pen, plastic shower cap and even my eye glass frames. When I returned home, I had to wash all of my clothes even the ones that I did not wear and also my canvas sneakers. I sent an email to the hotel, but could not find out the company that actually owns the hotel. Another couple who also attended the conference had to change rooms because the strong mildew smell which I think is coming from the air conditioning. I feel that this can potentially be a health issue. Free breakfast is included but there is only one restaurant and the hotel is not close to downtown area or the popular tourist areas. You have to take an Uber or taxi to wherever you want to go. It is not safe walking in the area of the hotel and not really any area to go for a walk. They do have plenty of visible security.
