“Wonderful hotel”

The staff was so kind, the room beautiful, and the outdoor garden restaurant just what we needed to recover from one of the worst flight experiences of our lives. Highly recommend.

The best hotel we have ever stayed in. The facility is gorgeous. They did an outstanding job of preserving as much as possible the historic buildings while creating a modern hotel with every possible convenience. The staff is amazing. One evening, I asked where I could go to get Diet Coke (it is a Pepsi hotel). They asked how many I wanted. Off they went to the convenience store. Five Diet Cokes showed up in our room a little bit later. No charge. I had a cold that wouldn't go away. I decided I needed a doctor. They sent a doctor to our room a couple of hours later. I did have to pay him $200, but he was great. The hotel delivered the prescriptions he ordered. They have a one-hour long art and history tour of the hotel. Amazing. Do it. The included breakfast is spectacular and you can eat it outside in their "jungle" garden.

“Opulence!”

We completed our trip in São Paulo. Whilst it was easy to choose where to stay in other cities we were not entirely sure from reviews where to stay in São Paulo. We completed our trip in São Paulo. Whilst it was easy to choose where to stay in other cities we were not entirely sure from reviews where to stay in São Paulo. As we have positive experiences at Rosewood London we decided to stay at Rosewood. The drive from the airport to the hotel isn't the nicest but we were all of a sudden transported to this little oasis as we were driven up the driveway of the hotel. The arrival felt a little overwhelming and chaotic. The foyer was very busy with people and most opulently decorated. Initially the footprint of the hotel is confusing and there are lifts for different towers but you find your way eventually! The opulence doesn’t stop at the foyer and our room was equally as stunning, although in honesty felt a little too much. Mirrors everywhere, beautiful balcony and all modern conveniences. Many ‘niknaks’ around the room with price tags hanging off. Breakfast is fantastic, but beware errors on your bill. These were easily resolved but seemed to be a consistent theme. The quality of service in Le Jardin was inconsistent. We loved Taraz, great food, great vibe! Many thanks indeed to the wonderful concierges Alexandre and Rodrigo. Special mention for Victor at Taraz and Bedros at Le Jardin for looking after us so well. This is a great hotel, the opulence may have been a little too much for our taste, but we would still recommend staying here. They just need to improve consistency around the service, especially at breakfast and Le Jardin.

The Room: A Beautiful, Overheated Soundproof Box The room was definitely the best part of the hotel. The architecture and design are incredibly well thought out, featuring several books across the room, all from Brazilian literature. It includes unlimited filtered bottled water (refilled daily, though you can request more) and the bathroom features Japanese automated toilets, which are a great plus. The sound insulation is immaculate; if you close the windows, you are effectively in a soundproof box. The service within the room provided some incredible details. Every day, the staff gives you a complimentary snack (chocolate, seasonal fruit) along with a handwritten note and a poem selection. Two specific touches stood out: I left my glasses on a table, and the team cleaned them and left a complimentary custom-made Rosewood lens cloth. Similarly, my charger, which I left on the bedside table, was neatly tidied with a leather band that was also Rosewood branded. However, there were significant downsides. My room included a bar, but all spirits, snacks, and boxed water were an extra charge. The rooms are classified (and gently reminded by fliers) as a "room-boutique," meaning you get a menu of the decor you can purchase. Even entering the bathroom, you are greeted by several amenities by the mirror, all as an extra charge. I also suffered from overheating. The air conditioning in the room doesn't go below 19 degrees, and the thermostat showed a steady 20 degrees. When I asked if we could make the room colder, a staff member just told me, "Yeah, the bed is hot by itself, we cannot lower the temperature further." This was frustrated as the bedsheets are very high quality with a high thread count (meaning they get REALLY HOT), especially in Brazil. They offer a sleep menu where most items are an extra charge; it did have a complimentary pillow menu, but when I ordered a body pillow and a white noise machine, they told me they had ran out of white noise machines. Service: The Highlight All staff were incredibly kind, with huge kudos to Ana (morning shift at reception); she even gave me a full tour of the hotel when I arrived and was incredibly friendly. There were absolutely no downsides regarding the staff, they were nice, transparent, and it felt really good. Facilities: Undersized and Crowded The main pool is beautiful, surrounded by vegetation, with a bar and bungalows if you need more privacy. However, it doesn't seem dimensioned to the total amount of guests; it feels small, even for a group of 20 people, so I doubt it would serve all hotel guests on a hot day. The secondary pool (rooftop) has an underwhelming view of concrete buildings. If it were as high as the Atlantic Tower in the same complex, it would be interesting, but it suffers from being very small, at least 4x smaller than the main pool. The main restaurant is located right beside the reception and has nice decor and a tasty menu, offering breakfast 24/7. However, it is open to the public, meaning anyone can dine there. If you wish for privacy while dining, this is definitely not the place. In fact, no place in the hotel is safe from people who are not staying there; even the rooftop bar, which in theory should be accessible only by elevator for guests, can be accessed by the public. This leads to a major frustration: having to compete for access to facilities. None of them are designed to hold the amount of guests the hotel can accommodate, let alone guests plus outsiders. I asked if I could have reservations for the new *Mata Citta* restaurant in the complex and was recommended restaurants from the city instead. There is no prioritization for guests whatsoever, nor guarantees of service; you are basically paying for your room and that only. It is understandable that the hotel is a luxury complex and money is required to run it. I am generally okay with hotels accepting outside guests with some restraint, but here the restraint was minimal. I would expect at least being able to make reservations with priority as a guest, but that wasn't possible. Overall, the hotel feels like it is constantly trying to put upsells on you, like a desperate need for money. It would have been nice to have some free booze in the bar to incentivize consumption, or some amenities in the bathroom to try out before committing to buying the lush display. Spa & Gym The Spa was a mix of feelings. While beautifully designed, when you immediately enter the facility, it is, you guessed it, a store for Guerlain products; the spa is tucked away behind that. The team was incredible, providing disposable underwear and a robe to enjoy. The dressing area is gorgeous, with mirrors, amenities, closed showers, and fresh towels. However, the spa itself is underwhelming. It offers two (excellent) saunas (dry, wet), both with only a 6-7 person capacity each, 4 stone beds, and a single small heated pool with 2 jets. It is almost comical the size of this facility for the amount of guests that could influx in. There were no walk-in treatments available; all had to be pre-booked. The gym, on the other hand, had incredibly excellent equipment, along with a free selection of protein bars, pre-workouts, snacks, and water, plus a personal trainer available. It was well designed, and the scale seemed to match the capacity of the hotel. Verdict Overall, the hotel was underwhelming. I felt like I paid expensive money for a walk-in store with a bed (albeit, beautiful) with optional "by-sheer-luck-find-a-seat" restaurants nearby. This is far from the luxury and privacy one would expect for a base stay of over $1,000. I would not come back to the Rosewood Hotel if my goal was relaxation, privacy, and a luxury experience.
