We had originally booked to stay at Villa Raphael back in May 2020. but had to cancel our plans at the time due to Covid travel restrictions, so we had long anticipated our stay! We we pleased to finally be able to stay here in May 2026 at the end of our Brazil trip. The hotel lived up to expectations, (even if Buzios itself didn't) and the gardens & pool are are the definite highlight of the property. In fact after a tiring 10 days travelling around Brazil, we ended up not doing a lot but relaxing around the pool most of the 4 days we were there. As others have mentioned the pool faces onto a quieter beach, with direct beach access & we enjoyed walking the beach in the evenings seeing Brazilian's & tourists alike enjoying the sand & various beach stalls selling drinks & snacks. The room was very nice with good AC & a large bathroom. If we were being picky it wasn't quite as nice as we had built it up to be in our heads, but by all means it was still a lovely room, spacious & had a comfortable bed. One thing that really did exceed our expectations was the service. All members of the hotel were very professional & friendly both in reception & at the restaurant as well as the pool drinks service. Breakfast was included & was very tasty with generous portions. You can eat either indoors or there is a small outdoors dining area as well. We only ate an evening meal in the restaurant the first night as we didn't want to go too far after a 6 hour drive from Paraty, but the food was very good & not bad value for money considering the quality. There's isn't too much choice on the menu however & an Uber into town is so cheap (a few GBPs each way), that we ended up eating in Buzios itself the remaining nights. There is also free secure gated parking as well as the gym at the hotel should you be feeing energetic! Buzios itself is a nice town with some excellent restaurants but we felt it didn't quite live up to the hype & personally preferred Paraty with it's mountainous, tropical backdrop & charming old town. Buzios does have more relable weather though & there is a great choice of restaurants to eat at in the evening. Villa Raphael also makes it worth the trip from Rio for a relaxing stay!
