“Best little place in Rarotonga”

We had the best time. The place was clean and tidy. The pool was so refreshing. The staff, Rangi, Ng and Paul were amazing and happy to help with anything we needed. Paul was a great host. Always at the ready with a cherry hello. We are returning guests for the past 10 years and love this place.

We stayed at the Black Pearl while attending our friends' wedding. The pool and Bar-b-que area were great for relaxing and taking time out. I liked interacting with other guests and hubby enjoyed the quiet space the apartments offer. The spacious rooms are airy and light with louvre windows and bug mesh to keep the critters out. A must for me! I went across the road for a snorkel. The reef is a fair way out so there's heaps of colourful little fish to be found among the rocks. We also spotted a few whales during our stay. Paul is a very friendly and accommodating host. His staff are also lovely. I recommend this place especially if you are bringing kids. The rooms are self catering, so there's options there if you need to stay within a certain budget but still have an enjoyable holiday! The neighbouring roosters crow at 'island hours' but that seems to be the norm all over the island!

We spent 10 nights here our unit was great with a pool view and own little covered deck directly across from a safe swimming / snorkeling beach and conveniently right next to a small supermarket, ice cream shop and Thai restaurant. Rooms are large and just like the pictures on the internet with a great amount of space for 3x people. The lady in the office is so lovely and accommodating. There is a good sized communal undercover deck for dinning after you have cooked dinner on the BBQ. The grounds and pool area are all well maintained, you can sit on your deck and hear the waves crashing on the reef while relaxing with a book etc. Yes you hear the Rosters crowing and sometimes dogs barking at night but that's all part of the magic of island life. The complimentary breakfast on the first morning (only) was a lovely and welcomed surprise as we arrived very late the night before. I would have loved to give this property 5 stars as we enjoyed it but the following really let it down if you are staying more than a few nights especially for the price we paid per night. 1) Lack of cleaning of your room, sheets were only changed once in the whole stay and not sure if they cleaned our room or bathroom at all. 2) I had to ask each day for clean towels as they expected us to use the same towels for 3days.... not to mention only supplying 1x face cloth and hand towel for 3x people, plus our shower leaked, so most days we had to use our towels as bath mats as bath mat was too wet after one shower. 3)The office / reception / washing machine access is only open Mon - Fri 8.30am to 2pm so you can' t wash your cloths or their towels etc other than these times nor access the books, or snorkeling gear.

We stayed at the Blackpearl for 3 nights and here are the highlights of our stay: Paul is a great host and he keeps the garden and pool looking wonderful, there were so many beautiful flowers around the place and it created that tropical holiday feeling. All our interactions with staff were super positive & helpful. The units are very spacious, and it would be a great option for large groups. There is a big BBQ and undercover eating area and safe drinking water available (without having to pay for bottled water). The ice cream shop next door is AMAZING! Super cheap and delicious.
