Perched on the third floor on the edge of the Plaza Mayor, the hotel and stairwell were a little tired but the room was comfortable light and airy and clean. The receptionist was helpful and we were able to wait for our room to be ready on the roof top terrace. Many things can be overlooked for the value of that terrace and the hotel position. We watched life swell and wane below on the Plaza and could also watch the storks take off and land on the towers of the walled city directly in front of us. The overall package delivers value for your price.

This is admittedly a somewhat strange place, and some reviewers have treated it harshly because it is not a Good Hotel, or the like. But it is not a hotel at all, and does not pretend to be. There is no one constantly on the desk, only off and on, presumably when people are expected to arrive (or depart) and there are no facilities whatever in terms of eating and drinking, etc. You get a room on the third floor of a building on the plaza; and if you get one of the two rooms that have plaza views, you will be both lucky and very happy, I should think. We loved our room, with the morning sun streaming in, and a little balcony where we could sit and have a drink. And in this place generally you are only a minute away from the historical centre, which lies just the far side of the plaza where you are. Excellent places for light breakfasts are on the plaza just below you. We parked our car at a municipal lot near here and simply left it for three days while we explored the town and environs on foot. On the 'down side,' the three flights of stairs up to this 'Hostal' will seem punishing to some. We're over sixty and didn't mind it, but then we don't mind things like that generally. The staircase is somewhat dark and dirty, which is off-putting; but the the Hostal is not responsible for this, or not singly, for they occupy only the third floor. If you do choose to stay here, you should definitely try and request one of the two rooms on the front; and you should give them a reasonable estimate of your arrival time, for as I say, there are long stretches when there is no one on the desk. Also, if you choose to stay here: when you get to the Plaza, the Hostal is up near the end that has the handsome municipal building facing the square, and you will see a square black sign with the name of the Hostal projecting from the third floor. The door on the street level is an unprepossessing, blank white door, with an 'H' next to it, denoting 'hotel' or 'Hostal' -- and no stars. It is easy to walk past it and not notice the place. I did. Twice.

“Hostel in Cáseres off Plaza Mayor”

The hostel ws well situated. The stall were nice and helpful the rooms were large. The on thing not mentioned is that it's on the 4th floor. It's not an easy climb with a large suitcase. Fortunate has small overnight bags.
