Very tight prices, very nice rooms, and a restaurant that exceeds what you expect to find in this small little hotel. The hotel assistants were very willing and extremely friendly; They made the 3 days we were visiting the area very pleasant

El Morendal is a beautifully restored old flour mill in the small village of Almarza in the north of the province of Soria – sometimes referred to as the “lung of Spain” – Dr. Zhivago was partly filmed in Soria and some of it, in winter, resembles Siberia. The Hotel has 9 lovely rooms, a very good restaurant - the food is good but the menu rather heavy and repetitive. You have to book in advance. The spa is small but heavenly and has to be reserved too. That’s nice because you get to use it on your own. It has just a big Jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath. Towels are provided but absolutely no other essentials such as shampoo for a shower afterwards. I needed some conditioner for my hair but they didn’t have any. I had a massage provided by Natalia who knows her job. One hour cost 60 euros and it was worth it. We slept in the “Fanega” room which we loved. It’s not very big (13m2) but is very comfortable with lovely clean linen and a decent sized bathroom with an excellent shower. Actually it was far too warm but that was not a problem. Breakfast is good quality and is not included in the price of the room. However it only offers continental breakfast: orange juice which is not natural (black point for a Spanish hotel), fresh and cut up fruit, toast with excellent local butter and not much more. When we asked for ham or eggs we were told they didn’t serve them. That disappointed my husband who prefers a savoury breakfast. I didn’t mind though. We loved the décor, very rustic and very attractive. The staff are nearly all immigrants, very attentive, but not offering much information about what to do in the area. We found we had to find out ourselves. The village is quite big, has about 100 inhabitants but is very sleepy and has nothing else to offer apart from the hotel. However the province has interesting nature areas to visit, such as the Black Lagoon (Laguna Negra), the skiing resort (tiny but nice) of Santa Inés and best of all, but further afield, the natural park Cañón del Río Lobos. We avoided Soria the capital of the province which is some 22km south of Almarza because we had been before. All in all we would love to return to El Morendal.

“Quaint & Lovely”

We stayed here for 2 nights which for some might be too long as the village is very quiet. We had drinks in both of the bars in the village and we found that our basic Spanish was enough to encourage warm and friendly service in both places. We stayed here for 2 nights which for some might be too long as the village is very quiet. We had drinks in both of the bars in the village and we found that our basic Spanish was enough to encourage warm and friendly service in both places. The hotel is well located for exploring nearby Soria, and we also headed into the Rioja Region for the day too. The Hotel is quite charming - very rustic, and as others have said, there has been a lot of attention to detail. Our room was very small, but very comfortable with modern furnishings and bathroom fixtures. We ate in the restaurant both nights, and enjoyed our meals immensely. Breakfast was also lovely. We didn't use the spa, but had a look around and it looked like a lovely set up. I had a massage which was amazing, and good value for money.

“Good but not clear”

Rooms and ambient are calm, roomy, clean and cozy. It has been very easy to get there. Little and chatty village. But the service included or not it is not clear and spa is quite expensive for 45 min. Website doesn’t tell details about services and prices.
