Well positioned hotel with views of the bay. Convenient to have Cafe Gannet on the premises for breakfast and dinner. We had a larger suite with a harbour view on two levels. It was spacious and cool but could be difficult for someone with reduced mobility as the stairs down to the bedroom are steep. Air con worked well. The kitchenette had a fridge and a microwave.

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Protea Hotel Mossel Bay and had a truly unforgettable experience. From the warm welcome at check-in to the thoughtful early breakfast arrangement, the service was top-notch. We were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade—modern, elegant, and spotless, with a beautiful lounge offering amazing beach views. Both the bedroom and lounge had their own balconies, perfect for enjoying the scenery. The small touches really stood out: good-night biscuits with weather cards, car windows cleaned each morning, and seamless communication throughout our stay. Breakfast was another highlight—while the spread looked small at first, every dish was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Service was consistently friendly and attentive. Thank you to Valthia and the team for going above and beyond. This stay has set a new standard in hospitality for us. Highly recommended—we’ll definitely be back!

“Good choice for an overnight stay.”

The Protea felt like a nice haven in Mossel Bay. It’s a nice environment with an excellent restaurant, gin distillery, outside sitting areas and a small swimming pool. The area around it is not so nice. Many of the shops and businesses nearby are closed down. As a result there are not many people w… lisää

The Protea felt like a nice haven in Mossel Bay. It’s a nice environment with an excellent restaurant, gin distillery, outside sitting areas and a small swimming pool. The area around it is not so nice. Many of the shops and businesses nearby are closed down. As a result there are not many people walking around and when those that are asked us for money we didn’t feel comfortable. We decided just to eat in the hotel restaurant which wasn’t a problem as it is very good - reviewed separately. We had a duplex room over 2 floors which was well equipped with a nice balcony and open views. Breakfast was a disappointment. A large buffet of tired food and uninspiring choices. All the staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. It’s a good choice for an overnight stay but not somewhere i would stay for longer.

A credit to the hotel. They could not do enough for us. The hotel itself is beautiful and everywhere is immaculately clean. Location is perfect. All facilities you could need. Breakfast and dinner were very very good. Drinks from the bar were lovely. The housekeeping staff, restaurant staff, reception staff, bar staff were all incredible. We will be recommending this beautiful hotel to everyone. Thank you so much to the wonderful team.
