Stayed at the Yousung during a recent international exposition. The hotel is no-frills, clean and the staff are professional, helpful & very friendly. There are Chinese and Korean restaurants, a lobby lounge and a buffet which has a great lunch selection that is quite modestly priced. The health & fitness facilities are extensive, with a spa, sauna, swimming pool and one of the best equipped gymnasiums I have visited in Asia. The rooms are simple. They are spacious enough with good beds and adequate air-conditioning but there are few of the trimmings that one would find in a 4-star IHG or Starwood group hotel. So if 24hour room-service, the full array of toiletries and a minibar are your thing, you will be disappointed. The Yousung is centrally located in Daejeon, inside the city ring road and really only a 10 minute cab ride from anywhere. The local neighbourhood is sketchy. It looks demure enough during the day, but it seems a little seedy after dark. At no point did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe. The hotel has a 100 year heritage due to its proximity to the local spa. It has clearly had a number of facelifts over the journey but is a little tired and maybe due for another. That said, if you're looking for a perfectly acceptable place to stay whilst you're doing business or seeing the local sites, the Yousung is fine.

“aging hotel, but service is great.”

the service i received was great, but the hotel is definitely aging. there are a lot of bright lights around, but the curtains block them out pretty well. decent area, but remember it's daejeon. :) the hotel does get busy for it's spring water.

“Room is too dark”

This is a classic hotel that had better days. Room is comfortable but far too dark to my liking. Service of front desk is also disappointing - seemingly reluctant to answer questions. Perhaps they are not comfortable with English?

The hotel has all the basic amenities, though lacks the little frills. The hotel has all the basic amenities, though lacks the little frills. It is situated in the spa area of Daejeon (Youseung) and is surrounded by "Massage parlours", cheap canteen-style restaurants, none-too-salubrious bars and corner shops. The area looks seedy but the red-light industry lying obviously just below the surface (both metaphorically and literally) is not in your face. Nevertheless, this does not detract from a decent enough hotel which is very business-like but also seems to appeal to local visitors who come to enjoy the spa. The hotel has a gym (free to guests) and spa and two restaurants (Korean and Chinese), although I did not try these out so cannot comment on them. The free WiFi is reliable and fast. The breakfast fare is perfectly acceptable without being noteable. The rooms are spacious but facilities are sparse. Rooms are equipped with a hairdrier, fridge, kettle, bottled water and 2 tea bags only, but no coffee or minibar. Bathroom supplies were not always replenished each day. The bed was large and very firm. Aircon was quiet but struggled to cool the room. So, all in all, it gets the green light from me for being a perfectly satisfactory place to stay that doesn't quite get the little things right.
