My wife and I spent the day at this resort with our 2 teenage children in March, 2018. Friends of ours from Guatemala City brought us here. It is pretty far for a day trip but it was still well worth it. The facilities are very nice and relaxing. The kids enjoyed the water volleyball. I enjoyed the swim up bar. The hotel was very private and the beach as well. We had the hotel pool and beach to ourselves for the most part. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The facilities very convenient. We thought the food was excellent in the restaurant. I ordered the fish. I think it was the best meal I had in our 6 days in Guatemala. Because this was a day trip, we did not see the hotel rooms. The porches in front of the guest rooms looked very nice though.

“TOP on my list!”

There are a couple hotels in the area that I really enjoy, but El Faro is now on the way TOP of my list. It is new, clean, architecture is simply AMAZING (meaning it is beautiful) beach front, resort type pool all along the property, restaurant has ocean view and the breeze is PERFECT. There are a couple hotels in the area that I really enjoy, but El Faro is now on the way TOP of my list. It is new, clean, architecture is simply AMAZING (meaning it is beautiful) beach front, resort type pool all along the property, restaurant has ocean view and the breeze is PERFECT. Food is GOOD and plenty of it. Service? Staff here KNOW the meaning of service. Both times I have been here, I complicated things a bit (not my norm) and they accomodated my needs with no fuss or problems, as a matter of factly and in a super friendly way. I love the rooms: AC, clean, modern bathroom, even a little porch/sitting area for every room in front of the pool. Did I say it is beautiful? They told me the architect that designed this hotel is Guatemalan and that makes me SO proud because he thought of everything! Even the pool has 4-5 different sections to enjoy depending on what you like or want to do. They have beach volley-ball, 4-wheel rentals and beach beds to chill and relax all you want. Tonight they are prepping for a wedding tomorrow and everything is looking...hmmmm....another word for beautiful? Gorgeous. So I don't know what you are looking for, but if you like new, clean, stylish, modern, relaxing, delicious, friendly, fresh, white, breezy, blue water, green grass, cool, beach chairs in water, ocean front, sit in your porch and order room service kinda place, you need to come and check out El Faro. I LOVE IT HERE...top on my list. Let me say, though, both times I visited El Faro, the place was pretty empty, so I definitely enjoyed THAT. Don't know how it works out when most rooms are occupied...

“So Much Better in Monterrico”

I've stayed in many places in Monterrico and this was by far the most disappointing. There are literally no room amenities here. I had to upgrade to a Three-bedroom at a superior price because of no other rooms available and all they did for the price was throw in an extra bed in a small room. F… lisää

I've stayed in many places in Monterrico and this was by far the most disappointing. There are literally no room amenities here. I had to upgrade to a Three-bedroom at a superior price because of no other rooms available and all they did for the price was throw in an extra bed in a small room. For $200 a night you'd at least expect a microwave? Coffee pot? Small refrigerator? Ice Bucket? NOPE. They don't want you to bring anything into this place so you can pay for it all at their bar and restaurant, so add another $100 per night for two. The "free breakfast" included with the room offered 3 options (Tipico, 3 pancakes, fruit). I literally had to beg someone for an ice bucket which turned into a large glass of ice. Our room was also too far from the one apparent wifi modem so it didn't work in my room or at the restaurant. The deck out front is nice and the property is well maintained and the beach is beautiful. If I hadn't been to other properties on the beach in Monterrico I'd probably have thought this was fine. I won't be coming back here again.
