Being from the UK, I’m quite reluctant when looking for hotels abroad. However, the hotel was outstanding, next to Dal Lake, and foreigner friendly. I felt comfortable and secure. The 3rd floor room, they assigned me, had a nice balcony and overlooked the McLeod Ganj valley - it was so beautiful sitting there and absorbing the spectacular view and Sun! I enjoyed staying at the hotel so much that Ii rebooked it for some extra nights. They shifted me to the 1st floor as another Customer had booked before I had asked for the room booking to be extended. The room was the same but on the 1st floor, however, it was equally as good. The rooms were super clean, came with various facilities, and were economically priced. All the staff were exceptional , friendly, polite, honest and catered to my every need. The managers, Rajwinder and Abdul, in particular, provided a brilliant outstanding customer service overall. They had a good comprehension of the English language too. I was helped to organise my tour and was even put in contact with a young fair-priced trustworthy driver. All the food was outstanding - very tasty, my very best was the Kadai Paneer with Lacha Parathas - amazing 😋 If I’m ever back in the area again, I’m sure I’ll approach the hotel again without hesitation. I fully recommend this hotel to all fellow travellers.

I was very impressed with this hotel during my stay. The location is very lovely and close to a nice Tibetan option for dinner, while being more out of the city and quiet. It is a very relaxing area to be in, and it is not too far from the nearby town of McLeod Ganj (short drive or within walking distance). Additionally, the rooms are very, very nice. I chose the "Valley View" option while booking, and I cannot recommend it enough. The view from this hotel is nothing short of extraordinary. The room itself was extremely spacious, with plenty of seating options. The bathroom was clean, and the shower was nice and hot. I only had one problem during my stay that I feel I have to deduct one star from the rating as a result. The WiFi was very fragile. I could connect without issues on both of my iPhones, but as soon as I started to do anything on them (i.e. scroll social media, YouTube, browse, etc), it would drop the connection and refuse my connection for 1-2 minutes before I could reconnect. In my experience, it would only load a few pictures before throttling and disconnecting. I reached out to the front desk after a bit of frustration, and to their credit, they sent someone to help fix the issue. Unfortunately, the problem was not resolved. However, the technician who came to help did not seem to have the same issue as me and was using an Android, so it is very possible that this is an iPhone-only issue that may not impact every guest. If I find myself visiting Dharamshala again, I would absolutely consider another stay at Hotel Shiva Sanctuary. It was truly one of my favorite hotels from my entire trip to India for the views, the calmness, the room, and the nearby area. I hope that the WiFi issues are resolved in the future for iPhones as I would love to stay here again.
