“The best escape - XANDARI RIVERSCAPES!”

Some experiences stay with you long after the journey ends, and our time with Xandari Riverscapes was exactly that. My mother, my daughter, and I set out expecting a beautiful backwater escape, but what we came back with was something far more special and deeply personal. From the very moment we landed until we returned back to the port, Honey coordinated everything with such effortless warmth and care that she instantly made us feel safe, welcomed, and completely at ease. Whether it was helping us board, checking in on us throughout the trip, or ensuring every little detail was taken care of even after we disembarked, she was a constant source of comfort with the kindest presence and the most beautiful energy. A huge thank you as well to Captain Sony Chettan, who guided us through the waters so smoothly and gracefully, Ship Chef Sujith Chettan, whose food deserves an entire review of its own because every single meal was absolutely scrumptious, Rajeev Chettan, who worked so quietly yet so efficiently behind the scenes, and Santosh Chettan, who gave us one of the most magical parts of the journey through an exclusive one hour canoe ride across the villages of Alleppey. That ride felt like stepping into another world. The stillness of the water, the rhythm of village life around us, and the sincerity with which he shared the experience made it unforgettable. What touched us most was that none of this felt transactional. Every person we met carried such genuine warmth, humility, and affection that it truly felt like we were being looked after by people who cared for us beyond just hospitality. The food, the views, the calmness of the backwaters, the laughter, the conversations, the quiet moments, everything came together so beautifully that this became more than just a luxury getaway. It became a memory woven with emotion, comfort, and connection. Xandari Riverscapes gave the three generations of us something incredibly precious. Time together in the most soulful and beautiful way possible. 🧿♥️

“Beautiful experience”

I had a fantastic time on my overnight. The staff and boat were amazing. The best part was pulling to the side and buying fresh crab and prawns and the chef cooked a delicious meal. My favorite time was when it was early and quiet and you could watch the river and its life slowly wake up.

“Relax and take in the Kerala backwaters”

Xandari Riverscape Houseboats is the perfect way to experience some of what the backwaters of the region has to offer. We spent two nights almost drifting around the myriad of channels, watching daily activities of the people that live along the shoreline as well as the waterbirds that call this place home. The three crew members; Raju served our meals and made sure we were comfortable, Shibu who safely navigated the boat around the waterways and Biju the cook who could create incredible meals from the small galley. The houseboat we were on (Karamanayer) a good sized bedroom, bathroom downstairs and a smaller upper deck where you could sit in the later afternoon-evening. Our bedroom was airconditioned which in our view for the time of the year is essential and worth paying the extra. The food seemed to be endless both in quantity and variety. Along the way you can stop to purchase some fresh tiger prawns or fish that will be prepared for the evening meal. We bought a kilo which was enough to feed the two of us and the crew for two meals. I would recommend the two nights if you have the time. The additional day does take you further into the backwaters where the scenery takes you further away from the main towns and past local villages. Communication with Xandari to arrange the booking was excellent. Email queries were responded to by Honey promptly which is not the experience we had in other places we stayed. A few suggestions to make your experience more enjoyable: 1. if you want to enjoy a beer or G&T on board stop on the way at a local wine shop. They have a fridge on board. 2. If you like ice with your drinks they can provide this though it is limited. Ask if they can provide an Esky with ice to put on board as it will also keep the drinks a lot colder. 3.get a boat that has airconditioning if you travel in the warmer months. There were a few things that we felt could be done to improve the trip. The bathroom shower does need some attention. There is no shelving to place things such as shampoo and the shower could do with a good clean. A bit of a bother at the start of our trip was the airconditioner not working that well. After some convincing and communication back to base the problem was resolved when the filters were removed and found to be clogged. Something that needs to be incorporated as part of scheduled maintenance. We also found the meals area very warm even with the efforts of the staff to have fans placed around. All that aside we found the staff friendly, helpful and worked hard to ensure we enjoyed the trip. Honey at the main office that greeted us was great and went over the details of our trip. We would highly recommend Xandari as an affordable option to visit the Kerala backwaters.
