Our family spent Christmas at Neeleshwar Hermitage Hotel in Northern Kerala and experienced the most relaxing time - largely due to the fantastic service we received from every member of the hotel team. 2 hours drive from Mangalore airport, we arrived to views from the lush tropical gardens of a long stretch of virgin sand which was fantastic for morning and evening walks. The beach shelves into a warm and inviting sea and other activities included waking up in time for complimentary yoga each morning, swimming in the beautiful pool overlooking the beach, using the hotel bikes to explore the local back road villages and experiencing Ayurveda massages and reflexology in their spa - a real treat. Food was delicious and offered both seafood and southern Keralan fare in the 2 restaurants. We would also recommend the services of the on-site tailor who was fantastic in copying and making up numerous items of clothing for all the family - at very reasonable prices. A wonderful and memorable Christmas for our family - and we then went on to stay at the hotel's beautiful Lotus Houseboat to experience the Keralan backwaters...

“The Neeleshwar is a fabulous and relaxing place which we love and are always very sad to leave.”

This was our third stay at the Neeleshwar Hermitage which says it all! We had last stayed there seven years ago so were concerned it would not be as good as before. This was our third stay at the Neeleshwar Hermitage which says it all! We had last stayed there seven years ago so were concerned it would not be as good as before. We should not have worried: it was better! It is an extraordinary place: just 17 cottages with a maximum of 34 guests, amazing staff, in a beautiful beach location, with the constant relaxing sound of the waves in the background. Our typical day started with tea on our terrace, followed by complimentary yoga in a wonderful space overlooking the sea, and then breakfast on the beach edge. Then to the beautiful pool to read and relax, and have the occasional swim in the sea. After tea, it was a walk on the beautiful and deserted beach or a cycle ride through the nearby villages witnessing every day Kerala life. Finally a wonderful dinner in one of the two lovely restaurants. The Neeleshwar is a fabulous and relaxing place which we love and are always very sad to leave.

“HIDE OUT AT THE HERMITAGE FOR SOME PEACE AND RELAXATION!”

We stayed at The Hermitage for 9 nights at the end of a very good tour of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. We had been looking forward to total relaxation for sometime and this did not disappoint in anyway. We stayed at The Hermitage for 9 nights at the end of a very good tour of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. We had been looking forward to total relaxation for sometime and this did not disappoint in anyway. From our arrival welcome to our departure goodbye all of the staff were outstanding in everyway. A really wonderful group of people who understand what hospitality is about and how to deliver real service in a professional and friendly manor which is most rare. We had Garden Cottage Sneha which was very comfortable kept spotless with very nice toiletries and a good bath and shower room. There are two restaurants we chose to eat in the main at the seafood restaurant by the beach. Breakfast was delicious with an excellent range of choices both Asian and European type foods. Dinner was so delicious - the outstanding Chef visits the local fish market everyday and the short but excellent menu changes daily depending on his purchases. The food was of the highest quality and 'spiced' to your required level - most enjoyable for all of the 9 nights. There is a very nice shop within the hotel grounds which sells a range of very good quality goods and has the most wonderful tailor on site. He is such a nice gentleman and very gifted - his work is highly recommended. Whilst there we took advantage of the offerings for local excursions. One was local villages/life - this was really interesting. A local school - local temple - local coconut picker etc all accompanied by Jayan the hotel Manager who is a font of all local knowledge and a delightful person. There is a full ayervedic service offered complete with doctor. These treatments are highly recommended or indeed the option for a full package including Yoga and Meditation - you can turn this into a very healthy holiday. The Hermitage is ideal for those who seek solitude - peace and just relaxation at the end of a hectic time in India - very highly recommended.

Our cottage Sneha, was perfect for us and very quiet and peaceful and housekeeping did a great job keeping it very clean. We went on the Lotus Houseboat ( fantastic crew ), a village walk with a really kind gentleman ( same one who welcomed us ) and to the Theyyam ( recommend ). Must also mention Chef, who made me veg meals at my request. We’ve had a lovely stay, so thank again you to the Managers and staff
