We were visiting Lucknow for a function, earlier we had planned to travel by our own vehicle from NCR but seeing the weather conditions we decided to change the travel plan and decided to travel by train (Swarna Shatabdi). While booking the hotel our main priority was that it should not be very far from the function venue. So Gomti Nagar became the obvious choice. Booked another property but then seeing that the train was getting delayed / cancelled, we booked our train tickets for a day prior to our original date. We decided to change our hotel accommodation too and after searching and looking at the pictures provided booked The Grand JBR through Makemytrip.com. The concierge was fast and carried our luggage in a luggage trolley to the reception. Reception area is decent sized and has 4-5 seating arrangements (8-10 people can easily sit here). The lobby cum reception area has 2 lifts. Our check-in was smooth. No issues at all. We were even asked about our choice of bed. We were given a room on the 3rd floor. The lift opened in a large sized corridor which had directions with room number. The corridor has motion senser lights (a good energy saving feature). Our room was decent sized and was exactly the same in looks as mentioned on the site and shown in the photographs. The room had a nice comfortable feeling. It had all the necessary amenities like a mini bar (empty so we can call it a mini refrigerator), Tea/Coffee maker with kit, 2 coffee mugs, a large LED Television, a working desk with chair, a couch with a glass table, the wardrobe had an electronic locker and few cloth hangers. We asked for slippers (bathroom slippers) and were given. The washroom was compact. Had a bathing area (divided by a glass partition from western style commode). It had ample lighting. Bath towels were provided on a daily basis. Their was hair dryer too. It was very cold when we had gone. The room does not have a heater / blower. But when we asked for extra blanket, the same was promptly given. One of the best thing which I liked was, as we were 3 people staying in the room, they themselves asked when can they put in the extra bed. And extra bed was a proper extra bed (not a mattress on the floor) with a comfortable mattress. They provide glass water bottles in the room (filled with R.O. water) which were replenished when ever we wanted. We were on Continental Plan (CP) i.e. with complimentary breakfast. The breakfast was a buffet breakfast. It was decent - not too elaborate and not too less. So we were spoilt for choices between Dalia, Cereals, fresh fruits, sandwiches, tea cake, muffins, cup cakes, pastries, South Indian dishes like Idli, Moong daal vada, chole bhatura, stuffed paranthas with curd, hash browns etc, along with choice of brown or white bread . One could also order eggs which were made right in front of you (so you could customize it too). Along with tea, coffee there were options of shake and juice. The breakfast is served in their restaurant Melange on the 4th floor. The restaurant has a nice ambience with views of the area near by. We had our dinner also here on the day we arrived. The food is superb, Tasty and in good quantity (they have mentioned portion size in the menu and its exactly the same when it comes to your table. They have a decent menu of North Indian, Continental and Chinese dishes (both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian). Another interesting feature they have on the 4th floor is the rooftop dining area. The area has an outdoor garden cafe feel. The views are good - one can even see parts of the Gomti Nagar Railway station. In fact we saw the rakes of Gomti Nagar - Dibrugarh Amrit Bharat (waiting to be launched) at the station from the rooftop. Location wise its good, not located in a very crowded area, very close to the Hanneman Chaurah, Homeopathic College, Max hospital (erstwhile Sahara Hospital), Conveyance is easily available. We used facilities of UBER/OLA extensively during our stay. We hadn't expected such comfort, professionalism and hospitality. We requested for a late check out and they agreed to the same without any extra charges. Check out was smooth. The team - Housekeeping, Room Service, Front Office and especially the team at Melange was good, hospitable, friendly, approachable, helpful. Overall the stay at Grand JBR was good and we would like to experience their hospitality again in future.
