My wife and I stayed at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis County Clare for four nights in July 2026 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had visited the hotel before primarily for their dining facilities but this was our first stay there. The hotel is a real gem! Our room was upgraded and was exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed (including air conditioning). We came to know several of the registration desk staff: Grace, Laura, and Tanya in particular; they were very outgoing and personable and eager to help in any way possible. The hotel has three dining options: The main dining room, the Town Hall Restaurant, and The poets Corner Pub. Breakfast is served in the main dining room and is excellent on many levels. There is an extensive buffet of cereals, breads, juices, and fruits to enjoy at the start. In addition, there is a very extensive menu of hot items from which to select your main entree; this is really a significant offering, since so many hotels are now only offering a buffet of hot items. You get to select what you prefer, and they are happy to make adjustments as requested. The food is prepared well and served with attention and care. The poached eggs are among the best we ever had anywhere! We did not eat in the Town Hall restaurant (although lots of folks did), preferring the informality and vibe of The Poer's Corner; the menu there is delightfully varied every day and includes such comfort food items as Chicken Kiev and a very interesting variation on Caesar salad. The staff in The Poet's Corner are very helpful and pleasant; we especially enjoyed meeting Emma and Rebecca, both of whom are hard-working and fun! We had the opportunity to meet one of the duty managers of the Hotel, Joanne Ryan, who was very personable and outgoing and very helpful with advice and recommendations; it was obvious that her staff enjoy working with and for her! The location of the hotel is ideal in a beautiful town that encourages exploration! We highly recommend that folks consider staying at The Old Ground Hotel; we are eager to return there ourselves.

2 of us spent a leisurely hour in the bar of the Old Ground Hotel on Tuesday 28th July and it was most pleasant. I opted for a cup of coffee and enquired if I could have a biscuit. I received a plate full of a wonderful variety of biscuits. We were served by most welcoming, friendly and highly efficient staff. Many thanks Mr. Allen Flynn ( Proprietor) Olga and all the team for a most pleasant experience. The bar was very busy thus indicating it's popularity.

“Great hotel shame about poor breakfast”

Will stay again however I would hope that the breakfast and I mean specifically the ‘Full Irish’ improves dramatically as every component was the cheapest product; sausages dreadful the bacon was the same along with the puddings I wouldn’t buy these ever in a supermarket and I didn’t expect it from… lisää

Will stay again however I would hope that the breakfast and I mean specifically the ‘Full Irish’ improves dramatically as every component was the cheapest product; sausages dreadful the bacon was the same along with the puddings I wouldn’t buy these ever in a supermarket and I didn’t expect it from a hotel where we booked for the good lunch and evening food which we got by the way and good value I may add along with really good service so I was surprised that they would allow such poor food to go out as the main event for breakfast.

It was quite a hike to get there, but what a surprise. Extremely large room, king size bed, large sitting are with large screen TV.
