The hotel itself is beautiful and the surrounding grounds are just stunning. All of the staff were friendly and the general cleanliness of the hotel was excellent. My only complaint really would be the doors to the bedrooms. They seem to bang very loudly when you close them. Due to this, I was jolted awake multiple times during each night of my stay. I found the bed very hard and uncomfortable so my sleep for the nights I was there was pretty horrendous. I don’t really blame the hotel for that though other than the doors. For some reason people were slamming doors a lot during our stay. I’m not sure why. I’m sure people who are heavier sleepers would be fine, that is why I’m leaving it as 5 stars.

We stayed here the night the Mayo team brought home Sam to Castlebar. After we got back to the hotel the restaurant had stayed open until 9.30 ( not sure is that normal or because the traffic to get from Mc Hale Park was mental) Our family of 4 had the most delicious meal and glass of wine in the bar. We were in the bar restaurant and the food menus is broad and the food was very welcomed and tasty. The staff were fantastic and everyone of course was in great form due to this monumental occasion. The room was so comfortable and spotless - there was no AC in the room but the staff brought in a fan that was very welcomed. The bathroom was spotless - there is also tea & coffee facilities in the room. The grounds of the hotel are stunning. We left too early the following morning and didn’t not sample breakfast . A wonderful 24 hours in Castlebar - thank you so much. Really good value for money.

A mixed bag if I'm to be honest. A beautiful long driveway entrance and steps up into a stunning lobby. A lovely young man welcomed us. I queued to check in and while waiting had a guy staring from the main desk ( I'm no looker by the way so not vain, I was behind him , I felt off). When I glanced back there was no smile or anything. It was weird. I looked him straight in the eye and he eventually looked away. His friend was on the hotel phone speaking a foreign language. I left it off, got my keys from the lovely receptionist. The hotel layout is tough to figure out but we managed. Lovely room, clean, bed only ok comfort wise but shower was fabulous. Big gap under the door so unfortunately we could hear everything... including whoever woke us all on the Sunday night at 2am walking past chatting loudly. We went to the bar for food. Not great to be honest. My son's pizza was stingy with little to none cheese and a slap of sauce. My BBQ wings were swimming in far too much sauce I left most behind and my chips were the small bits you get at the end of a batch. Saying that my other son had pasta bolognaise which was very tasty and plenty in the bowl. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and were lovely so I just let my disappointment slide. The pool is nice, could do with fixing here and there, the family room was closed off plus the changing area uses padlocks which we were not aware of to bring. The towels are on the small side. Breakfast was fabulous 🥳😋. Then Monday's dinner in the pub. I decided to order the pasta bolognaise as it was so nice the night before. Both boys decided on the same. We were seated right by the entrance where the service area is. The food arrived...... Stone cold with a dollop of bolognaise. I explained what we had received the night before and in fairness I then got a lovely hot pasta with plenty of bolognaise. Had to ask for the chips that were forgotten. The garlic bread was shocking , stone cold and hard as a rock. The cheese garlic bread was nice. I couldn't get anyone's attention even though four to five girls were floating around at the counter. I eventually had to get up and approach the counter to ask for another round of drinks and ketchup etc. The servers were too busy chatting a lot of the time it was very frustrating. I didn't want to be " that person " so paid and left for the children's disco. Free and a great few hours. We did stay in the corner as my boys are autistic but they did enjoy it from afar and it was a great idea along with the tours and art classes that the hotel provides free of charge. I also love the concept of the fertilizer and eggs to take home and the women's bathroom was spotless with a basket of " necessities". Always appreciated in an emergency!! There is a little crazy golf course and a play area which could really do with some attention , it's quite tired looking with tape surrounding one of the holes. The little hut for an ice cream is a lovely feature, the girl today was a wonderful young lady to deal with. Also, we saw no dogs allowed in any areas except outside yet when we arrived there was a man with a dog on him lap sitting in the lobby area and walking through the hall. We paid for a minder for our small dog to be left at home !! Rules for thee but not for me can be frustrating for others if not adhered to or implemented by the hotel. On another note. I was deeply disappointed to find out during our family visit that the resort's other building is an iPas centre. We won't be returning.
