Stayed here for Mother's Day treat. We arrived in the afternoon room wasn't ready so we had a drink in the bar. Check in was quick and friendly. The man can't think of his name took our luggage up to the room he was lovely. Room was lovely and comfortable and well equipped. As it was a mother's day trip I thought there would be some kind of card or something in the room but nothing. I did state it on the booking that it was a special occasion and the lady on reception did ask was it anything special. Other hotels 4 star rating that I stayed in for a special stay would of recognised it. This 5 star didn't. Lovely grounds and walks. We walked to the South Bar could of got the shuttle service but we walked over. We got the shuttle service coming back. Food in the South Bar was delicious and the staff very friendly. Got drinks in the bar. There own gin and a mocktail 36 euro for two drinks. Which we thought was very steep. But it is 5 star so your paying 5 star prices. Lovely big rooms to sit by the fire.

“Excellent 5⭐ hotel, but outdated Spa”

Very good 5 star hotel, but I just wanted to comment on the spa or pool area, which is very outdated and not a relaxing, tidy or serene place for adults to relax, probably just ok for kids or families.

Am amazing weekend with my husband for his birthday. The staff here are second to none. They are very attentive and good at their jobs. The hotel itself is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. Am amazing weekend with my husband for his birthday. The staff here are second to none. They are very attentive and good at their jobs. The hotel itself is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. I had a massage in the spa by sarah who was wonderful and gave me an excellent massage. The straffan inn is a lovely little bar with a much more relaxed vibe where we had excellent pizzas. We had dinner in the Barton which was nice but I have had nicer. The overall stay was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The reasons for the 4 star review is 2 things: the breakfast really wasn't up to standard. The continental portion of the breakfast was actually nicer than the cooked breakfast. And the second reason is after my massage in the spa while in the relaxation room my phone rang (I had been in there one hour after being told to stay as long as I want) and it was the spa. The lady on reception thought i had left. She later apologised but it made me feel uncomfortable like I they thought I was ditching on paying.

A birthday treat for fiends, imagine the excitement of spending time as a group celebrating a friend’s birthday. A most memorable hotel with a concierge second to none, take a well deserved bow Michael, your knowledge of the hospitality industry is truly amazing. A beautiful room overlooking the river Liffey in full flow following a recent storm with the comforting touch of a turndown service. Quiet, relaxing and amazing in equal measure. The former “Straffan House” has been meticulously restored and decorated and is an absolute joy to resident in. Warm log fires before bed with superb cocktails have created wonderful memories. Then why the review? The Palmer dining experience is unfortunately below the 5 star rating of this wonderful hotel, well below. Let’s just leave it there and look forward to the renovations of the fine dining restaurant of the main house. Such a pity!
