The Pillo hotel is our local and we have been many times including choosing the hotel for our wedding. The Pillo hotel is our local and we have been many times including choosing the hotel for our wedding. We have gone through mixed experiences but one of the biggest let downs in the place is communication and management... some (not all) of the staff dont seem to be helpful or warm when approached regarding services. The security on the door are not great, we recently went to a party and was being harassed by a group of men, when this was highlighted a brief talk happened and it continued for the night with out any further assistance. As a guest you want to be reassured you are safe during your stay and we did not experience this...

“Need to prioritise guests for pool use!”

Positives: very friendly and helpful staff. We interacted with about 10 members off staff and can't fault any of them. It had a sensory room. Positives: very friendly and helpful staff. We interacted with about 10 members off staff and can't fault any of them. It had a sensory room. Breakfast was simple but had all the main things: fry, fruit salad, cereals, juices etc. Particularly friendly and helpful young man on breakfast. Negatives: couldn't use the sensory room for autistic child because it was booked out the entire Saturday. It's not much use if families are booking online, people not turning up. It needs to be clear before booking that you cannot bank on this room being available. Children/adults need it when they need it. Scheduling the need isn't that helpful. It's only open from 9am. Again, people need it earlier so I don't understand the 9am. The room itself is excellent. All the typical stuff. But I'm sure many families would like to be able to drop in and out as needed, even if they briefly share the space. Families with kids with additional needs get it, and would work it out amongst us. I think drop the word playroom. It's for kids who need it, not a play space for random fun. 2. The pool booking system. It's 2026... kids not allowed into the pool until 10.15am. And then when we tried to book a slot for 10.15 it was full. And we were told sorry there'll be swimming classes on too. So our kids hung around for hours waiting on the pool. It would be nice if guests were priority over swimming lessons. But I guess they want to make money from them. But the pool is the major attraction for the kids and families. Having to book time slots like cov'd times is a bit annoying and we'll avoid this hotel now. 3. The bar was bananas on Saturday night for dinner. We actually had to sit in the hall as there are circle speakers all over the ceilings to ensure everyone can hear the blaring football match. Music blaring too. It was fine to sit outside but the tables were just the little coffee tables that barely fit out our food, and it was a bit cold with the breeze blowing in. The staff were very nice about it and looked after us. It was our choice as the bar was so intolerably loud. It was interesting they have a sensory room but then accommodating families with additional needs seems to stop there. 4. Vegetarian food is almost non existant. We'd looked up the menu online and there were veggie burgers and onion bhaji burgers. But the real menu doesn't have that as apparently its been updated. The only main option is veg curry. Just to be aware. And for lunch the next day, bar food is the same and the sandwich menu also has nothing vegetarian. You could take the ham out of the cheese toasties but I think it might have been 12e. 5. The rooms are tired. Theyre clean in that the cleaner did a good job. But it need a deep clean and updating. Limescale removed, tiles need to be fixed. That sort of thing. There's a fridge. Only liquid hand soap on the wall and liquid wash in the shower on the wall. No little bottles of cream or conditioner etc. No flannels. No shower caps. Tea bags and coffee sachets, but no little biscuits. Water dispenser was on our corridor but it didnt work so we had to go multiple times to a differnt floor. As they'd only given us one small glass jug. There's a vending machine which is great, but for example, minstrels were 2.30e. So its all fine. But it's not somewhere for a short break. It's the basics. Maybe it would suit someone on a work trip. Overall it was just fine. We booked for a night away for a milestone birthday, and it was just ok. We wanted to love the sensory room but the awkward restrictive booking system made it less useful. Even splitting the room down the middle and allowing two families use it at once would be better. Even let families come and go.
