We had a fantastic couple of days at Rothay Manor. From the moment we were greeted on arrival by the charming Shirley and offered coffee and cake by the lovely Rachel, until the time we left, the service was professional but most importantly, also very warm and friendly. We had two rooms in the Pavilion annexe, both of which were spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Yes, there is some road noise but it certainly didn’t affect us and the pay back is the close proximity to Ambleside. The food and service in the restaurant were wonderful. We ate on both nights from the à la carte menu, but will definitely try the tasting menu when we return. The restaurant manager is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and the rest of the staff follow his lead. Nothing is too much trouble and the guest is always put first. We travelled with our dog who is well versed in eating out with us and with hotel stays. Rothay Manor cleverly manage to integrate the dog owner into the restaurant area without making them feel like second class citizens. The area is at the back of the restaurant and accessed by a side corridor so the main body of the restaurant and the diners there, who may not wish to see dogs, are not affected. Top marks for this. Well thought out and something which hopefully keeps all parties happy. Breakfast was also most enjoyable with a number of interesting options. It was a really relaxing start to the day and we were all very happy with our selections. So all in all a very positive experience and one we certainly intend to repeat. The quality of the food and accommodation is matched by the warmth of service and attention to detail. We were most impressed.

“The best in the Lakes!”

Most beautiful hotel in the southern lakes, our room was stunning and all wishes met. The restaurant was off the scale good. Surely this deserves a Michelin star or two?! We were blown away by the quality and the service - and have no doubt that we will return. We can certainly see why this hotel… lisää

Most beautiful hotel in the southern lakes, our room was stunning and all wishes met. The restaurant was off the scale good. Surely this deserves a Michelin star or two?! We were blown away by the quality and the service - and have no doubt that we will return. We can certainly see why this hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotel group. The staff are exceptional - wholeheartedly recommend.

The tasting menu paired with the wine was an exquisite experience. The service was excellent set in a beautifully set out restaurant. The tasting menu paired with the wine was an exquisite experience. The service was excellent set in a beautifully set out restaurant. The waiting staff we attentive and well informed regarding the food, the sommelier was enthusiastic and clearly knows his wines. Then there was the food, each course was delicate and well balanced and fabulously presented and some of the dishes were presented by the Chefs themselves!! We had a fantastic experience and will definitely be going back when we are next in the lakes

“Great except dinner - eat out!”

Mostly enjoyed - except dinner and drinks. Room very nice and luxurious, nice scones in garden. Bar/restaurant staff and most of reception staff great (one not - supercilious/performative) Great breakfast. Dog hospitality excellent. Mostly enjoyed - except dinner and drinks. Room very nice and luxurious, nice scones in garden. Bar/restaurant staff and most of reception staff great (one not - supercilious/performative) Great breakfast. Dog hospitality excellent. Dinner though was way overpriced for what it was and there was no more ‘casual/standard’ fare offered despite being described in info. Main courses tiny with no warning. Small meat portions, no potatoes/rice/pasta at all, no side dishes offered. One piece of asparagus is not a vegetable portion. A couple of G&T’s were £40.
