I spent Christmas Day at the restaurant at Courtyard by Marriott Keele Staffordshire with my wife and our baby girl, and it was a really nice, relaxed experience. The food was genuinely enjoyable, well cooked, full of flavour, and felt like a proper Christmas meal without being too heavy. It was just the three of us, so having a calm, comfortable setting made a big difference, especially with a baby, and the atmosphere was perfect for that. The staff were brilliant, friendly, patient, and very helpful, which instantly put us at ease and made us feel welcome rather than like we were in the way. The restaurant itself is a lovely place to sit and unwind, clean, cosy, and well laid out. Overall it was a really pleasant way to spend Christmas Day together as a small family, and we left feeling happy and well looked after.

“Mostly great but disturbed by the bathroom lighting”

We were going to a matinee performance at Regent Theatre and, rather than rush home afterwards, we had an overnight stay. We were going to a matinee performance at Regent Theatre and, rather than rush home afterwards, we had an overnight stay. We decided to drop off our bags before going to the theatre so it was a lovely surprise to discover that our room was ready and we could check in early. The female staff member on reception was so pleasant, welcoming and efficient, ensuring that check in was really quick Our twin room (#132) was a good size and really well equipped. It was good to see plenty of hangers in the wardrobe, even if we didn’t need them for an overnight stay. The en suite was modern with a great shower but the opaque glass partition between the bathroom & bedroom seemed like a real design flaw, as it didn’t offer total privacy. More irritating, though, was that the light shone through the glass and lit up the whole bedroom when either of us used the loo during the night; it’s just not great being woken up in the middle of the night by bright light! Breakfast was buffet style and extremely good with plenty of variety. Dining room staff were really on the ball, checking which items needed to be replenished, as well as wiping surfaces and spillages. However, some of the chairs in the dining and reception areas are too low for the height of the tables. We had a coffee in the reception area and our chins were almost resting on the table! There’s plenty of parking, which seems to be free, although guests have to register their car details. Overall, we couldn’t fault our stay in terms of service (all staff were excellent), comfort of our room and beds, breakfast and value for money. The only negative was being disturbed by the bathroom light during the night which was a big issue for me and is why I can’t give five stars. That said, if we were in the area again, and needed a hotel, we would return.
