8 very happy golfers completed our 22nd Annual Golf Tour. 3 very enjoyable rounds of golf in sunshine, wind & rain. The Golf Course was in superb condition throughout our stay. The staff are a credit to the business, always polite, attentive & happy to help. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need. The food is top class, with a wide variety of choices. This is our 3rd Tour visit to Bells Hotel and won't be our last. Well done to all. Steve Brooks

“Needs refurb now.”

Reception was pleasant and helpful. Corridors shabby. We had paid extra for the Premier suite. Spacious room and bathroom with lots of windows. Bed very comfortable. Reception was pleasant and helpful. Corridors shabby. We had paid extra for the Premier suite. Spacious room and bathroom with lots of windows. Bed very comfortable. Decor in poor condition and furniture cheap and worn. Bathroom kit damaged but functioning. If this is premier heaven knows what others are like. Whole place badly in need of refurb. Not worth the price.

“Let down by the bedrooms that feel very much feel like an 'after thought'....”

The hotel trades on its golfing reputation and bar. The rooms seem very much an add on after thought... I had a single room which was decidedly spartan and basic. - not like the photo on the website. The hotel trades on its golfing reputation and bar. The rooms seem very much an add on after thought... I had a single room which was decidedly spartan and basic. - not like the photo on the website. Pluses were a comfortable bed and a good shower. The rest were all negatives. Walls were white and furniture pale grey. Even the compulsory cushion on the bed was grey. The large screen TV was the only adornment. It wasn’t as clean as it could have been with a cobweb in the bathroom and dust on the skirting boards. The room always smelt slightly musty and there was a strong smell of drains when I used the shower. (Perhaps that explains why there was an air freshener aerosol in the bathroom? The extractor fan was also quite noisy. There was a notice in the rooms saying they were only serviced every three days. This involved emptying the bins, straightening the duvet cover and possibly a quick wipe round the wash basin. The carpet wasn’t cleaned and towels weren’t exchanged. The bath towel was thin and although it dried well, soon got very wet. It was a ground floor room overlooking the car park and there was no slider limiting how far the window could be opened. If left open, it would have been easy to open the window fully from outside - a H&S issue? The kettle was temperamental and cut out while boiling. There was little drawer space (and the hair drier took up all the space in the drawer in the bedside cabinet). Breakfast was decidedly average. As already mentioned there was no fresh fruit - only tinned mandarines or peaches. It was a help yourself buffer and even if first in the dining room food was only lukewarm. The bacon was tough and the sausages land and uninspiring. The best bit was the fried bread! The evening meal was much better with a reasonable choice (although no fish dish). Portion sizes were very generous. Service was also quick. and staff pleasant and helpful. The bar area was always busy and could get quite noisy. It was very much an ‘average’ stay. Staff were excellent and dinner was good. But it was let down by many small things.

“Don`t be fooled by the name...”

It might be a swanky golf club, but it ain`t a swanky hotel. The receptionist gave us a piece of torn used envelope on which she`d written our room number in red felt tip pen. Usually you get your digital door card in a small holder with the property name printed on it and a space for the room number to be written. Not at this hotel and country club. The room had only a passing resemblance to those on the website. I paid a higher price for our room as there was a choice of two so I aimed for the better one. If this was superior to the other I can`t imagine what that looked like. Our room was bland to the point of being nondescript. The tea and coffee facilities were below par...to coin a phrase. One cup. One mug. One spoon. And the usual array of bags, milks and instant coffee. The plumbing in the bathroom harked back to the 1950s with plastic pipes coming out of the ceiling. The black shower curtain didn`t help on any level of attraction. The worst feature of this yawn-inducing room was the fact that it had paper walls so the neighbours` conversation -- and later their damn television -- sounded like they were in the room with us. So plenty of yawns at bedtime trying to bury our heads under the pillows to seek a few hours sleep. On the plus side the breakfast area was smart and tidy. But a poor selection soon let it down. Small boxes of Kellogg`s cereals, no porridge, no fresh fruit, one bowl of plain yoghurt that ran out quickly and was not refilled. The first day the impressively large croissants were warmed and kept that way under a clean cloth. On the second morning they were stone cold and doughy. Although the place was alive with golfers from daylight to sunset they were not as rowdy as we had feared and if they are not staying they tend to do all their parting in the separate building housing the restaurant. So we gave that a miss. OK. It was cheap and not quite cheerful. Our room was listed at £180.00 for two nights but on offer at £160.00 so I think we had the last laugh. We weren`t expecting much -- and I suppose we got what we paid for.......
