“Fantastic dining experience”

Had a great dining experience at the Crab and Boar. We had a table of 14 and found the service from all staff to be first class. Special praise to Liv and Josh. Furthermore the food was fantastic. Compliments to the chef and to the kitchen staff who are clearly doing something right. Thanks

“Perfect pub”

Lovely proper dog friendly country pub. We stayed two nights in a beautiful and comfortable room, with an enormous shower! Lovely proper dog friendly country pub. We stayed two nights in a beautiful and comfortable room, with an enormous shower! The breakfast and evening meals were lush, the food was quality, well cooked and presented. The staff go over and above and were extremely friendly and helpful. There are walkways adjacent to the pub and there is a good country park minutes away by car. I wish I lived nearer as I would make this a regular haunt. I can't recommend this pub highly enough, it is a destination pub.

“Excellent”

What a great place, very great for a wedding venue. The service was great and very friendly staff. The rooms are very spacious and very equipped for a great night stay. Will definitely visit again.

This place simply needs some tlc! Great management and staff whose hands are utterly tied as the owners refuse to spend any money on the property. This place simply needs some tlc! Great management and staff whose hands are utterly tied as the owners refuse to spend any money on the property. This is the biggest shame as the potential here is huge. The pub is set in gorgeous countryside, from the outside it is so pretty. But the threadbare stained carpets, fraying throws on the beds, plant pots full of weeds and dead plants, a broken umbrella just left outside the bedroom, peeling paint...it really lets it down. We couldn't even use the tv as apparently the wifi is temperamental and can't cope with 14 bedrooms of guests. We had a lovely time, it's well situated for exploring, we went to Highclere Castle, walked around Donnington Castle, visited Malborough. But the place is simply run down. Dinner in the restaurant was nice, but there was no enthusiasm in selling the dishes. A lot more could be made of local ingredients (we are in farming country after all), but it felt more like the staff were serving the food rather than selling it if that makes sense. We also thought it was overpriced. Overall a lovely weekend away and staff were great. But we would not return unless the place has a much needed makeover
