“Superb break”

Great location, relaxed atmosphere and thoughtful staff. We enjoyed lovely food and relaxing in the heated outdoor pool.

i had a wonderfully stay at Hotel du Vin Exeter. The building itself is full of charm and history, which was the former eye hospital, and this really comes through in the bedrooms, which feature impressively high ceilings and elegant, characterful design. It gives the whole place a refined, boutique feel that’s hard to find in more modern hotels. The en-suite was compact but had everything that you needed, plenty of hot water and a good shower. The room had a good WiFi connection, small fridge with complimentary water. tea and coffee making facilities along with iron and ironing board. Breakfast was a particular highlight which beautifully presented and cooked to order, with excellent quality ingredients and a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. The restaurant has a beautiful outlook across the garden through the floor to ceiling glass doors. It felt like a proper treat rather than a standard hotel offering. The only slight drawback was that the room did become quite warm, and the air conditioning struggled a little given the height of the ceilings. That said, it didn’t detract too much from what was otherwise a very comfortable stay.

“Lovely over night.”

Love over night stay catching up with great freinds. Had a cozy room as just 1 night. All Staff were lovely. Helen in the restaurant was very helpfull and so sweet! Maintenance were having a bit of an issue with the lift. However, the maintenance man offered to help me with my bags up the stairs… lisää

Maintenance were having a bit of an issue with the lift. However, the maintenance man offered to help me with my bags up the stairs, not his job but very lovel to offer. The young chap on the front desk checking us in was very helpfull and had a lovely chat with him (didnt get his name, theres no name badges! He had short hair waistcoat had been to Cheltenham) the morning chap was very attentive. Looking forward to going back again dec maybe, but will stay longer, get a larger room and use the spa! The Restaurant breakfast was very tasty. The variety and choice was slightly smaller than other hotels but it was very tasty, i loved the fruit cocktail jar! If your lucky Helen, the waitress, will over see your table. Shes adorable! The locations great, easy walk to the centre. If you forget to book a car park space theres a car park next to it but it gets busy. Looking forward to returning 😀

“Wouldn’t stay again”

We have stayed at this hotel before and had a great stay which is why I decided to book again. Sadly this experience was not as good. The receptionist was so helpful on arrival and sorted out a room move for us due to very noisy people we were sandwiched between. This of course was not the fault … lisää

The receptionist was so helpful on arrival and sorted out a room move for us due to very noisy people we were sandwiched between. This of course was not the fault of the hotel. We were given a room on the ground floor. It was quite nice but not nearly as nice as the room we stayed in on our last visit. The worst bit was the dirty top blanket on the bed and the cushion covers were also stained too. At £200 a night I would expect clean bedding. Lots of stains - not from being old just from not being changed. Horrible! Also the room could have done with a dust. Dusty lamps and tables. Breakfast was ok. The breakfast table with cereals, fruit etc wasn’t stocked. It all looked empty and uninviting. It wasn’t like this on our last visit. I asked where the cheese and charcuterie was and was told I needed to order it separately. The eggs and avocado were lovely and cooked freshly by the chef. I did speak to the receptionist (not the helpful lady I saw at check in) and told him about the dirty bedding and dusty lamps and bedside tables. He seemed disinterested so I said I would write a review instead. Thought it was only fair to speak to them first but he didn’t ask to come and look at the bedding. We are members of the Society du Vin so hoped for better service. So overall, not a great stay. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to friends now and we would have used the hotel a lot with our son starting at Exeter Uni in September. There are better hotels in Exeter for less money sadly. Such a shame to see standards slip.

“Disappointing customer service”

Our room was cosy, lovely colour scheme and everything in there! However the air conditioning was broken. The unit had a display saying out of service on it. Our room was cosy, lovely colour scheme and everything in there! However the air conditioning was broken. The unit had a display saying out of service on it. So assume must’ve been visible to the cleaning staff. We didn’t discover this until we tried to use the AC. The room was small and very stuffy, it became unbearable. We had an awful nights sleep and there was nothing we could do. I accept these things happen, but my disappointment was more with the guy on reception. I told him of the issue and he said how sorry he was to hear that and would get it fixed, but no acknowledgement of our poor night sleep as a consequence of the defect. Had we been stay f two nights then we may have a had the opportunity for redress, but we weren’t and she knew we weren’t.
