Really love this hotel, the decor is palatial and yet relaxing. The food is delicious, well presented, never had a bad meal here yet. Breakfasts are superb. We mainly come for lunch, always greeted by friendly staff, Diana B who has been here for years is so charming and professional. As it was Friday we both had the fish and chips, delightfully cooked, great portions and fresh. Never disappoints. Only complaint not near to our home, but so worth the trip.

I travel a lot for work, and often you find the places where you lay your head can blur into one… so when I find a gem, it’s a rare and wonderful thing. This is one such gem. The town itself is a quaint little example of Englishness, flags, varied architecture, cobbles, timber… you get the picture, and the hotel itself is housed in an Elizabethan coaching inn. Beautifully decorated - like the rooms, but what is more impressive is the attitude of the staff. They’re very friendly and welcoming and service is attentive without being invasive. Their very friendly rooms are beautiful and this has to be a first - I had pillow spray in mine and a personally written greeting. I dined in - dinner and breakfast - and the food was delicious, well presented and plentiful. This is definitely one to add to my favourites list.

We recently visited for afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday, which made the experience all the more disappointing. The sandwiches were particularly underwhelming—the bread tasted stale and dry, and the fillings were very meagre. After raising this with staff, we were brought a replacement egg sandwich which was actually excellent—fresh, well-filled, and exactly what we had expected from the start. Unfortunately, this only highlighted how poor the original selection had been, and left us wondering why the initial tea couldn’t have been prepared to the same standard. Service was also inconsistent. While some staff were attentive, one waitress in particular came across as quite rude and at one point almost threw an extra scone onto the table in passing, which felt careless and unprofessional. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the occasion we were celebrating. With better attention to quality and service, it could have been much more enjoyable.
