This hotel is amazing! The entrance to the drive is across from the train station and a gentle few minutes stroll to the hotel. The location of the hotel feels like you could be in the middle of nowhere as it's surrounded by hundreds of trees and it's peaceful. I arrived into Grange early and the lady who was on reception very kindly let me leave my bag while I explored the town. The town centre, packed with gorgeous little independent shops, cafes and restaurants is a five to ten minute walk from the hotel. There's the ornamental gardens with pond and exotic (wild) birds and the orchard. Both are an absolute oasis of calm and tranquility. Upon arriving at the hotel, I was early for check in, so enjoyed a drink from the bar. Half a lemonade was less than £2.00 which really surprised me. I thought it was be more like £4.00. What stands out at The Grange Hotel is that all staff are so friendly, helpful and have guests comfort at the centre of everything they do. Honestly, I couldn't fault the staff from start to finish. The lady on reception checked me in and what a joy she was. She was so helpful. I didn't catch her name but she had maybe a South African accent. My room, on the second floor, was a single with an internal view which was a balcony overlooking the atrium. It certainly was different and I loved it! There were rooms on the opposite side from mine with balconies but none overlooked each others room, so I could have the balcony doors open without anyone seeing in. The room, furniture and soft furnishings were all such a high standard, with various lighting options. The TV was huge for a hotel room! One thing I did struggle with was the size of the door of the shower. Getting in and out was a real squeeze but that's my own issue for being so chunky, but other large people should just be aware and maybe request a room with a bath. Still, I did manage to shower and the shower was fine. Toiletries were lovely and smelt beautiful. One thing I did note was the toilet roll was thick and luxury! I'm used to the £1 for four at home, so that was a treat! My room was so nice I relaxed there for a few hours in the afternoon. Usually I'm one to go straight out and explore but this room was far too inviting to want to leave! I did eventually go for a swim and the leisure facilities are very nice. There were squealing kids in there which made it quite not as relaxing as it could be, but I wonder if introducing an hour a day adults-only swim would be an option? All the lockers were also in use so maybe a few more lockers would be good? I had dinner at the hotel, and my, what a lovely venue. Service started very slow with it taking a staff member about twenty minutes to take my drink order, but after that, everything flowed and the food was beautiful, absolutely delicious. I had the fishcake to start. The flavours were amazing. Rack of lamb followed. The taste sensations blew me away. Then the sticky date, ginger pudding with brandy sauce and cream finished the meal off perfectly. The restaurant team were brilliant, especially a young man who was friendly, attentive and such a joy. After a great nights sleep, I enjoyed breakfast. The choice was fantastic and the food delicious. Before check out, I enjoyed another swim, which was throughly refreshing and enjoyable. Would I go back to The Grange Hotel? In a heartbeat!

The room was attractive, comfortable and clean, but there were a couple of design flaws: a very low-hanging light fitting over the bed, and a motion-sensor bathroom light that kept switching off while I was shower… lisää

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely food in the bar, and good breakfasts. The room was attractive, comfortable and clean, but there were a couple of design flaws: a very low-hanging light fitting over the bed, and a motion-sensor bathroom light that kept switching off while I was showering (ie, it didn’t pick up the movement in the shower cubicle). There was no extractor fan in the bathroom either. There was also an unpleasant “drain” smell from the bathroom on our first night - which explained why our window had been left wide open by housekeeping.

We recently stayed at the Grange over Sands Hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday, and overall we had a really lovely experience. First and foremost, the staff truly made our stay memorable. Chloe was absolutely exceptional — warm, professional, and incredibly attentive. Cameron and Olga were also fantastic; they couldn’t do enough for us and genuinely helped make my birthday celebration feel so special. Their kindness and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The food was amazing throughout our stay. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Dining here was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Our room was okay, but unfortunately it was a little dark and overlooked the fire escape rather than having a sea view, which was slightly disappointing given the hotel’s stunning location. A larger mirror in the bedroom would be very helpful, as the only one available was positioned quite high — and you had to be careful not to knock your head on the corner of the television while using it. Housekeeping was satisfactory, although our room wasn’t serviced until nearly 4pm. We had returned from a day out by then and were hoping to rest and get ready for the evening, so the timing wasn’t ideal. As we had booked a spa retreat, we were surprised that there were no robes or slippers provided in the room. The spa itself was pleasant and relaxing, though the pool was on the cooler side for our liking. Despite these small issues, we had a wonderful time overall and would definitely return — we would simply request a different room next time. The staff and the food truly made the stay special, and for that we are very grateful.

My husband & I booked last minute as our son was staying at a close by scout camp so we decided to have a weekend break of our own 😉 My reviews are all observations & based on my personal expectations. They are not complaints. Hotel has onsite parking but limited if hotel is busy. The staff are very friendly, professional & helpful. The breakfast buffet is lovely with plenty to choose from (full english, cooked meats & cheese, fruit, yoghurt, cereal....) Overall the hotel is kept very clean but in order to reach its true potential it would need more attention to detail & maintenance eg no shelfing in bathroom for toiletries, bedroom mirror too high to use when sitting at vanity desk, lighting needed round steps around gardens to avoid trips & falls in the dark. The spa facilities can be used by all guests at no extra cost which was lovely but the jacuzzy wast working when we visited. These things happen though 😥 It was a lovely couple of nights away in a lovely hotel in a great location literally accross the road from railway station & around 10 minutes walk to the centre of the village which has plenty of eateries & small shops.
