We stayed one night for our 10th anniversary based on recommendations from friends. To be honest, it didn’t really meet our expectations based on the feedback from others that have visited previously. We were in a really small room and I had to sit on the steps to do my make up at the mirror as there wasn’t a mirror in the room at a desk and the bathroom ceiling was sloped which meant their was only a small mirror in there. The room lacked light as the small window was floor level. The room was decorated lovely though. We had dinner and breakfast and whilst we were asked twice were we celebrating, we never had anything else to make it special - another friend that just had a meal and didn’t stay had a plate with happy anniversary on it which was lovely. We had to chase for drinks at our meal as they were not checking although the staff were very lovely in their interactions. We couldn’t use the lovely lounge bar due to a wedding and when we wanted a drink at the other bar no one was about so we had to go back down to the restaurant to ask (another couple wished us good luck in getting service for a drink). Earlier the little bar was so busy we were directed to the lobby to have a seat at reception which was not really what I was looking for. We had to pay for the spa area which I was surprised at being an overnight guest totalling £70. This was over £500 stay so really, this was disappointing. I wouldn’t stay if a wedding was on again.

“Lovely hotel in a lovely setting.”

We had a two evening break at The Marquis. Lovely hotel and Spa, lots of parking, our room (3) was very spacious, great views of the Suffolk countryside. We had a two evening break at The Marquis. Lovely hotel and Spa, lots of parking, our room (3) was very spacious, great views of the Suffolk countryside. Comfortable bed, large bathroom with two sinks, large roll top bath, sizeable shower. The staff (in particularly Joanna on reception) were highly attentive and well trained. The restaurant is actually a little smaller than we thought it would be. We had booked a dinner B&B package but that only gives a credit against dinner not cover anything on the menu. Portions are large, the food is great and the kitchen open for guests to see the team working. We had sharing steaks with crisp hot chips, broccoli, mushrooms & tomatoes. Very plentiful & tasty. Breakfast was our only gripe TBH, the choice is great if you want cooked, if you want cereal, porridge, fresh fruit, croissant etc that isn’t available. After a big dinner a lighter breakfast choice would be ideal. We used the spa extensively, my wife & lady friend had wonderful treatments from Lauren, my wife said one of the very best she’s had. The spa its self is relaxing, great changing rooms, two pools, hot tub, sauna & a lounge area with free soft drinks, teas & coffees. This hotel and restaurant is expensive but you get what you pay for in life! Recommended to all.

“Sunday Lunch”

Marvellous building and location, given that i'm surprised that the restaurant was small, cramped and noisy. The sunday luch was excellant but the desserts need some expert attention.
