Booked this for a night away to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Had read a few indifferent reviews about the hotel recently so was a bit worried whether it would live up to expectations. Upon arrival we were welcomed by friendly staff in reception who informed us that we’d been upgraded to room 20. The room was beautiful with a high ceiling, stunning bay window, huge bed and lots of space. The room was well decorated and the air conditioning worked (I was concerned about that following some recent reviews from other guests). The air conditioning was quite noisy but it did keep us cool. The bathroom was clean with nice toiletries, although I think the sink could do with a bit of attention as water takes quite a while to drain - not a big deal though. Dinner was good. We had roast dinners. My wife had chicken and I had beef. The servings were good and everything seasoned nicely. We enjoyed brûlée and chocolate and orange torte for dessert. Both were very nice. Service was very friendly and did a great job. Breakfast was decent although maybe the choice from the continental breakfast could have been greater but no big problem. The only thing at breakfast was my wife’s coffee was crazy strong (blow your head off strong). But that was easily changed for peppermint tea with no worries. All in all we had a lovely stay. The hotel is in a great location just next to Richmond Park, staff are friendly and certainly the room we had was very nice. I’d definitely stay there again.

“Need new kitchen and waiting staff who have a clue.”

Stayed a night with my daughter. Really lovely hotel, very local to us. Entrance foyer beautiful, check in quick. Service around restaurant terrible. My daughter arrived an hour before me and waited in the garden. Initially she went inside to order a coffee as no one had come to her. Following receipt of her drink and during the hour until I arrived no waiting staff came anywhere near her to ask if she required anything else. When I arrived it was a similar situation. We had to go inside to ask for menus and again back inside to order drinks. Ordered a beef roast and chicken Caesar salad. The roast was mediocre and lukewarm and the salad came with no dressing. Just a dry salad. Had to ask where the dressing was and was brought out the tiniest thimble full of a dressing which was quite weird. In short not a good experience. We ate out that evening and our room rate didn’t include breakfast which we were glad about. Such a shame as the setting of the hotel and the spa area is fabulous. The restaurant, chef and waiting staff are bringing this hotel down unfortunately.

“The company needs to do better”

This Hotel is a mixed bag. We have stayed here three times for social and family occasions. It’s definitely lacking now. This time we were four adults and two kids. This Hotel is a mixed bag. We have stayed here three times for social and family occasions. It’s definitely lacking now. This time we were four adults and two kids. The building , and the entrance is still lovely. Our room was nice and bed comfy but the loo wouldn’t flush and television wouldn’t work properly. The bar - lovely staff but service just too slow. Lots of remarks about staff not turning up and long hours worked etc. We went out for dinner as we just didn’t feel the service would be up to scratch. Glad we made that decision as the Breakfast service was so bad. The food took an hour to come out and it was awful; cold, overcooked and we left it. Such a shame - so many people complaining; the hotel is being run on a shoe string. Such a lovely building in the best location; everything in the right place but everything just a bit wrong! It could be so wonderful. Our bill was adjusted to reflect our complaint by a sympathetic member of staff but would rather it had been an outstanding stay. Come on Harbour Hotels - inject some time into this lovely place and make it better.

A first impression of a hotel is always the entrance and this was a particularly nice one, very inviting. But the reception staff were a big let down, got the impression they didn’t want be there ! The room we booked was Superior, the first room had a view of a car park so we changed and this time a view of the restaurant courtyard ! The website description and I quote states View Admire streets lined with Georgian properties and tall tress. We couldn’t be bothered to change rooms again ! Anyway the room was nice and a decent size and very comfortable. The 2nd day we went out at 11am ish and the room next to our was being cleaned however when we return just after 3 pm our room had not been cleaned, I asked the man in the hall to clean our room and we would go and sit in the courtyard. When we returned the room had been cleaned well in a fashion. The duvet had been pulled over the bed !! And one bottle of fresh water plus fresh towels. The management definitely need to train the reception staff in customer service in particular how to welcome guests and smile ! and housekeeping in how to clean a room ! Such a shame and a let down as the hotel is lovely.
