Great service. We meet here for a breakfast meeting every Friday and Julie and the team at the Mercure really do everything they can to help ensure you have a great experience and have everything you need. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

Good reception, bar and restaurant area. Staff friendly and polite. A bit slow and chaotic checking in. Rooms warm and bed comfortable. Decor dated and bathrooms need upgrading. Shower over bath made inaccessible by fixed shower screen with shower and controls unreachable unless you get in bath first. Flush on toilet was broken and had to be pumped to be half effective. Reported it to reception twice but still the same when we checked out. Breakfast disappointing cooked breakfast not hot enough on first day and plates cold. Second day breakfast followed two weddings the day before and staff and kitchen couldn’t cope. Continental breakfast ran out of cheeses, sourdough and croissants and promises of replenishment never happened. The grounds are beautiful and vast and there is plenty of parking but I think this hotel is not up to 4 star standard. Breakfast should be served not self service and rooms should be updated along with bathrooms. No complaints about staff attitude which was warm and friendly in spite of our complaints.

“An ok hotel, made better by their staff not their dated facilities”

Whatever rating this hotel gets, the staff and service are second to none, they are so lovely and willing to help they should be appreciated. Whatever rating this hotel gets, the staff and service are second to none, they are so lovely and willing to help they should be appreciated. The food is ok at the hotel, just what I would expect although not quite 4 star standard. The facilities can be considered 4 star however they are so dated and battered/bruised the hotel star rating should be 3 star or less. I’ve never come across a sauna that is covered in plastic walls that turn into seats, seemed like it hadn’t been updated since the 1980s! The basic room is good enough, again very very dated, with black mould around the bath is inexcusable for a room cleaned daily. That being said, the bed was extremely comfortable. As I was there through work I can’t complain about the price as I didn’t pay. An ok hotel, one I probably wouldn’t return.
