“Great venue for a wedding!”

We had our wedding here and honestly it was the best venue and the best day ever! Everything went so smoothly and exactly how I’d imagined! Would highly recommend getting married here.

I’ ll start with the positives. We ate in the restaurant two night running as the food was delicious, as was the cooked breakfast. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool was the perfect temperature and sitting in the hot tub watching the highland cattle a real treat. Now the not so positive. Unfortunately, the hotels housekeeping lets it down, the dust on the top of our headboard was thick and not been hovered for months! The dinning room windows were filthy and dust sat on top on lighting above our heads as we ate. There were dead daffodils on every table at dinner and breakfast the next day. Finally, the shower in our Royal room bathroom was a trickle so I ended up having to shower in the spa. Sadly, the hotel misses the mark for a luxury.

Nice location, with the outside seating area and surrounding fields. Inside the decor is nice, some rooms have cosy fires and the Brasserie is lovely. Nice location, with the outside seating area and surrounding fields. Inside the decor is nice, some rooms have cosy fires and the Brasserie is lovely. Although it does not have a view over the water as their website says. The 'classic' room had good quality furniture and fittings, although the decor in the room I had, was plain. Nice tea and coffee, but not even a couple of biscuits.  Also, a little bag with just two cubes of sugar, fortunately I don't take it! The room was small, not as pictured on their website. There was only room to walk around the bed, there is a bedside table each side of the bed. On the wall opposite the bed, there's a wardrobe and beside it dressing table, come desk and tea point.  Meaning there's nowhere to put anything else down. There was nowhere to put a bag where you wouldn't fall over it. I put mine in the deep window sill, but difficult to get to it, once I'd put down the blind. Noise from other rooms is noticeable.  Food was very nice, although I thought expensive. Staff were friendly and a welcome drink and night cap are a nice touch.

The surrounding area of Rutland this hotel is set in is very picturesque and makes a huge difference when there is pleasant weather. The atmosphere is welcoming although there is a trace of customer familiarity especially with guests/members who visit the hotel either for regular dining or use of the spa facilities which leaves new guests feeling ignored. Some staff on occasion appeared to not want to be there so overall their customer service level was less than engaged/attentive. The room (Royal level) was nothing more than average showing signs of needing urgent refurbishment, poor heating controls/source, combined with bed linen torn and beds in terms of comfort, having seen better days many years ago. This, linked with stained carpets, smeary bathroom surfaces and ‘in room’ drinks making facilities which were in a poor condition, not reflecting the pricing level the hotel associates with one of its higher grade rooms and the expectation from guests. Most disappointing during the two night stay was the breakfast service which failed to deliver when busy and highlighted the hotels inability to cope with hosting when at almost full capacity The continual breakdown of the only coffee machine on both breakfast mornings was terrible, leading to staff being distracted trying to fix this at the expense of taking breakfast food orders and when the machine did return to use, lengthy delays while guests attempted to serve themselves a coffee. The hotel is attempting to blend a ‘self service style’ and an ‘at table service’ and is failing on both fronts. The management team and its owners (Signet Group) need to decide what they are aspiring to with a blended service like this, and possibly reconsider focusing on only one so that they excel, as it’s clear from our experience it is falling short at the moment to do either and this was also echoed by a number of guests on checkout when we were leaving at the same time. Overall, the hotel is only slightly better than average.
