“What a shame”

What a shame, with a little money spent and good maintenance, this hotel could be stunning. Our room, at first sight, was huge with great decor. The bed was ok but not the best one I've had. What a shame, with a little money spent and good maintenance, this hotel could be stunning. Our room, at first sight, was huge with great decor. The bed was ok but not the best one I've had. Unfortunately, it was not hotel-standard clean, with thick dust on skirtings. The maintenance in the lovely bathroom was poor, with silicone perhaps applied with a toothbrush, around the large bath, and in other areas of the hotel that needed re-plastered hallways and patched woodwork were done badly. The hallways were a maze of doors, which all looked the same. I dread to think of a fire happening in these baffling corridors. Perhaps if the exit doors were painted a different colour, and emergency exits were clearly marked or a third colour, or clear signage. We often found ourselves in the concrete corridors for Emergencies Only. The lift broke down while we were there, and there was no internet in the room despite the staff advising us on how to connect. Our door keypad worked only after a few attempts and had my husband banging his head on the wall in frustration, as 'a trip' down to the lobby could waste an hour of good daylight. However, the staff were friendly and happy to help us.
