An excellent one-night stay in this lovely hotel. The atmosphere is of an English market town coaching inn with a classy modern twist The public areas are tastefully decorated and furnished and looked to have been refurbished quite recently. The bar and restaurant are divided into small areas which meant we enjoyed privacy but did not feel remote. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. A special mention goes to the amazing duty manager Sally who looked after us impeccably during our stay. She insisted on showing us to our room on check-in and she has the perfect can-do attitude for her front-of-house role. She kindly allowed us to bring in our own cake to have with copious pots of freshly-brewed afternoon tea and looked after us attentively during a delicious evening meal. She even arranged with the chef to provide an off-menu combination Our bedroom was beautifully appointed with two full-size double beds and a modern bathroom with both bath and walk-in shower (and the hotel chain’s trademark rubber duck!). The room was decorated in gorgeous wallpaper and all the soft furnishings matched in bold floral fabric. Plenty of pillows and cushions, comfortable beds, no external noise, what’s not to like? Just be aware parking is very limited onsite but there are public car parks nearby. Also, no lifts bat I’m sure staff would help with luggage. There’s one big suite on the ground floor if you struggle with stairs Would we come back? Definitely!

“Quirky hotel/inn but not 4 star.”

Quirky hotel with small well equipped bedroom. Bathroom needed maintenance as shower broken. We would not consider this a 4 star hotel just an eccentric former coaching Inn. Bar area is pleasant and the staff helpful. Breakfast was ok but overcooked. When we mentioned to the waitress the eggs were … lisää

Quirky hotel with small well equipped bedroom. Bathroom needed maintenance as shower broken. We would not consider this a 4 star hotel just an eccentric former coaching Inn. Bar area is pleasant and the staff helpful. Breakfast was ok but overcooked. When we mentioned to the waitress the eggs were overcooked, she apologised but no offer to replace them. Very limited parking (4 spaces) which were always full, but public parking nearby.

“First visit - and will go again.”

Stopped in for a coffee whilst shopping in Godalming. What a pleasant surprise. Lovely atmosphere, welcoming staff and excellent coffee. Definitely a nice place to go for coffee/lunch or dinner. Better than the rest of the chain coffee places in the town.

We recently visited for afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday, which made the experience all the more disappointing. The sandwiches were particularly underwhelming—the bread tasted stale and dry, and the fillings were very meagre. After raising this with staff, we were brought a replacement egg sandwich which was actually excellent—fresh, well-filled, and exactly what we had expected from the start. Unfortunately, this only highlighted how poor the original selection had been, and left us wondering why the initial tea couldn’t have been prepared to the same standard. Service was also inconsistent. While some staff were attentive, one waitress in particular came across as quite rude and at one point almost threw an extra scone onto the table in passing, which felt careless and unprofessional. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the occasion we were celebrating. With better attention to quality and service, it could have been much more enjoyable.
