I have now stayed twice at this hotel, the second stay booked because of the excellent guest experience on the first occasion. That experience is made by the staff and their attitude to guests, including a very "can do" approach, with all staff, whether reception, restaurant or room service, willing to use their initiative to go the extra mile, rather than simply restricting themselves to the services that are part of normal service. Guests are made welcome from the moment of arrival, and there is a clear commitment thereafter by all staff to be as helpful as possible. I think that this reflects well on senior management as well, and they clearly are doing something right to create the culture that is almost tangible in its excellence.

“Excellent VFM & Recently Refurbished Property with some finetuning still required”

I have just completed a one night stay at The Grand Hotel in the heart of Leicester which originally opened its doors in 1889 and has recently been refurbished (re-opened in February but some work on some of the 100+ rooms and notably the lifts and function room airconditioning units - see below - remains to be taken) and is another of the growing number of different Thai-owned (see my recent Review of the Trouville Hotel at Sandown on the Isle of Wight) regional UK properties. My visit was in regard to a Regional Dinner for 50 guests my colleagues from the British Nepal Chamber of Commerce (BNCC) were hosting at the Hotel. It took place last night in one of many attractive function rooms which provided an excellent setting. The food was also very good but the service a little tardy and, rather annoyingly, the air-conditioning wasn’t working. Five of us stayed at the Hotel and I was certainly pleased with both my very comfortable refurbished room and the large bathroom with my favoured standalone shower. The High-Speed WiFi was also much appreciated. Ditto with the Breakfast (£10 if purchased at Reception on checking in or £15 at the Restaurant) which includes an outstanding buffet. Richard the Chef also prepared me a lovely (large) bowl of Porridge supplemented by a cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, baked beans and sausages. My four BNCC colleagues were, however, not so fortunate. They were unaware of the Cooked Breakfast arrangements and all ordered omelettes (together with very little else) only to be charged an additional £9 each! My advice would be to only have the one ‘Cooked Breakfast’ Menu available on the tables and then only produce the second ‘A La Carte’ one for those guests specifically interested in a wider range of cooked breakfast options. Unfortunately, this - together with the lack of air-conditioning in the Function Rom - took the gloss off an otherwise excellent stay at a property which I would strongly recommend to others.

“Disappointing”

Rooms clean , lift still broken and rooms noisy due to busy night life/takeways outside . Very expensive and not worthy of cost .
