“80th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION”

What a great place for a celebration. 80th Birthday party for 42 family and friends this afternoon. Very well organised from start to event. Buffet food was first class & well stocked bar. Very reasonable prices. Special thanks to Robert & his staff. 5 star all round.

Lovely country pub in the middle of nowhere. Lovely country pub in the middle of nowhere. Hard enough to get to, the lane is sooooo very long, its an exhausting drive on a narrow lane from Shepton Mallet, equally tough coming from Glastonbury too. The pub is very big, an Old Coaching Inn, the service and management are excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, although when I first booked it, I had expected the worst as I had problems. The room was lovely it was big and at the quieter end of the pub, up 6 stairs, next to the Hair Salon. Yes, this place has it all! Booked originally because my partner had a works party that night and for him being Autistic, the room was easier for him to cope with than the evening and having somewhere to bolt to when it got too much. I had thought of it all and we needed that room so much come the end of the evening. I wasn't allowed to sit with the party, so I had dinner in the dining room with him before they arrived, that was delicious and the service once again was perfect! The bed was hard, but I had asked for extra duvet and pillows and with that, the bed was more comfortable and I slept well, It was very quiet room 123, and over looked the side of the pub. The walk in waterfall shower with extra power hose, was amazing, although the temp did fluctuate a bit, it wasn't a big deal. It was hot and it did the job to getting me moving that morning. Breakfast came with the room price and we had a cooked to order breakfast, continental was help yourself in the bar area. Very good food, and very pleasant surroundings. Check in and check out was very easy, and the business is very transparent when it came to finishing the bill with them. I will definitely return for a break, certainly out in the sticks, but for a relaxing break with no where to go, this is the place to be, surrounded by bird song and countryside.

“Definitely not AA 5 star food”

Went for a group lunch for approximately 40 people. Only 2 servers - rushed off their feet. Last mains arriving after first served had finished. The chicken looked good, and the pork was ok, but qell overcooked. The photo is of the cod loin (it's under the tired lemon somwhere)

Great location and well renovated with a large car park (electric car charging points should you need) We were greeted by a lovely receptionist and we had a very spacious four poster room. The room had a door to the outside (so I imagine it is wheelchair accessible from the outside), Large spa bath tub and a walk in rain shower. It was opposite the restaurant extension which should you like privacy means curtains need to be shut. The room was well decorated aside from a wardrobe that looked very out of place. It was also well heated. Unfortunately there were quite a large amount of cobwebs (covered in dust) and dust down the posts of the bed. The spa tub had quite a build up of limescale as we discovered turning it on resulting in black particles in the water and the sink surround was quite stained. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant to save driving the 3 miles in to Wells as we wanted a relaxing weekend. The food was adequate. Breakfast was included and the continental buffet choice was decent for a hotel of that size, the cooked options are made fresh to order. I had a full English, which was reasonable quality and the following morning the porridge which was amazing. Unfortunately on the Saturday evening there was a lot of noise from the function happening in the hotel and loud screaming. This went on late and I do understand the needs of businesses to make money, however there are things that can be done to negate the annoyance this causes to guests. At around 4.15am the fire alarm went off, so we all evacuated to find there are no staff on site during the night. Thankfully there was not a fire however this just highlighted a poor consideration for guest safety. One of the guests was able to silence the alarm and contact a number written on the wall by the reception, however if there were a fire nobody would be able to do that, nobody would know if guests were still inside and that just isn’t good enough. We were back in the hotel around 5am and managed to get to sleep some time after 6, with checkout being 10am. It would have been nice to have received an apology, and perhaps a later checkout. Overall I would say we have stayed in far better 3 star accommodation. Left feeling disappointed.
