The Crown Spa has a splendid facade and is an excellent location with stunning views of the bay and nearby gardens, my room overlooked South Cliff. We were lucky with the weather this weekend, I was able to enjoy watching small sail boats and an occasional speed boat. It’s a short walk to the town centre although a bit steep on the return journey. I didn’t bring my swimsuit so I couldn’t enjoy the pool & Spa but I believe it is good. Breakfast was good but I found the brand of tea disappointing. The building is a little tired and could do with a bit of painting and some new carpets. In my room, I personally don’t like a waterfall shower, I prefer an adjustable height type, the shower gel/soap became diluted with the water pouring into the dispenser. Overall a very pleasant stay with the lovely staff and friendliness of Yorkshire folk.

Corners have been cut and it shows. Beautiful large room overlooking the sea. The bed was comfy and lovely to have the arm chairs by the window to sit in and admire the view. Shame I felt I was back in my grandmother's house with the 1990s decor. At first glance the bedroom appeared clean - the bedding certainly was - but thick dust on the bedside telephone. The location was quiet - a step from the magnificent South Cliff Gardens and a short walk from the town. The waiting staff were friendly & helpful. Although the spa reminded me of school changing rooms (bare with no robes, shampoo or drinking water) I enjoyed having the pool and other facilities included in the cost of my stay. My biggest disappointment was the food. UPF mass produced in an industrial kitchen off site. Maybe back in the 1980s a chef may have thought the menus were modern. I noticed a large amount of uneaten food was returned to the kitchen which reinforced my view. Such a shame as smaller portions using fresh locally sourced produce would be welcomed with an emphasis on the flavour of Yorkshire - a missed selling point. I appreciate this involves training kitchen staff instead of operatives who heat & cut open plastic bags. One cost cut could be two courses offered instead of three? Embrace the Victorian splendour and ditch the corporate decor, the hotel needs to stand out from the many others in the town in order for you to succeed. Furniture from that era is cheap but keep the beds!

We booked a sea view double and were not disappointed. Great views directly over the sea. Room for s spacious but very tired. All the woodwork is well worn. Some stains on the walls and light shades. No aircon. Hotel was busy due to an event at the open air theatre (easy walk there - recommend you get the bus back) but the bar service was slow.

The room was okay clean - superior King/twin. No air con and due to warm weather fan was a needed one was available already in the room. No hand towels? Only 2 bath towels and a floor towel. The room was okay clean - superior King/twin. No air con and due to warm weather fan was a needed one was available already in the room. No hand towels? Only 2 bath towels and a floor towel. The coffee machine in the morning - latte was Luke warm and when asking if they had any other facilities to make us a coffee I was told ‘No sorry’ and that staff have complained many times trying to get the coffee machine fixed. Good TV in room. Breakfast was okay. Basic. Not a 4 star. Staff were polite we only stayed one night. So okay.
