Entered the hotel an we were met by an extremely cheery and helpful receptionist. Boys headed if to golf and girls went for a spa. Girls said it ranked as one of the best spa’s they have visited better than Turnberry. We had a light lunch from the small plates menu and everything was great. Rooms… lisää

Girls said it ranked as one of the best spa’s they have visited better than Turnberry. We had a light lunch from the small plates menu and everything was great. Rooms were well equipped and shower was very modern. Bed was extremely comfortable. Evening meal was very tasty, not a huge menu but the good thing is that they obviously go for quality, fish and chips, shepherds pie and the curry all tasted fantastic and the serving staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Breakfast was nice with usual bacon eggs sausage black pudding haggis and beans. Not a huge choice of meats and fruit but on a wet winters morning what was offered hit the button. Would recommend

“Fab but room for improvement”

Firstly, Anthony is incredible! From conversations prior to arriving at the hotel to ensure a great stay to a warm welcome and a great departure. He is a true credit to the hotel and made our experience p much better…a real thank you to him! We were incredibly fortunate for our room to be upgraded as a treat for my mother’s birthday trip and for this I thank the team, it was a lovely touch. The room was beautiful and very clean. The one thing which wasn’t the best is how paper thin the walls are. We could hear the kettle going on and the hairdryer blasting at 7am the next morning. Although this is not the hotels fault potentially repositioning the bed so that it isn’t against the other room so close would improve the overall sleep. However, beautiful room and again very fortunate for the upgrade. We loved the spa - the facilities are incredible and unlike any other spa I had been to before. It was incredibly clean and service was very quick. The lounge in the reception area is gorgeous and great for cocktails (shame this was shut in the evening as it would’ve been lovely for a night cap). The prices for the alcohol - cocktails, spritz and wines were very reasonable. More than happy to sit back and have a few drinks pre spa. The one are which unfortunately left us feeling a little disappointed was the dinner / breakfast. We had pre paid £45pp for the four course dinner. The full experience in the oak restaurant was unfortunately disappointing. Firstly, nobody knew we were on the four course menu so were originally given something different and wasted time. The service for getting our drinks was painfully slow so much so that I watched my drink sit on the side for 15 minutes before it was brought out (I brought this to the attention of staff twice). As for the menu itself - it was poor. Of the four courses, two are pre-decided. A bao bun which was vinegary and chewy and soup of the day which was lovely and I am very glad that was an option as it ended up being our main. As for the third course you can choose a main dish from four things (one of which is a £15 supplement) I chose the butter chicken and my mother chose the burger. The butter chicken arrived with over cooked rice and the chicken was more skin than meat. The burger was very mediocre- nothing to call home about. A portion of fries was also ordered but did not arrive even after asking wait staff for them. We left most of our mains and when the general manager who was lovely came over he offered us to look at another menu and choose something off of it however at this time it was 9:30pm and far too late to wait around for another main to come out. Finally, the dessert although lovely my brownie came out freezing cold after being told it would be warm however the crumble was lovely. To compensate for this we were given two cocktails and a Diet Coke free of charge. A lovely touch but does not over the £85 charge we were given for a very poor meal which would’ve cost much less. The breakfast in the morning was rather frigid and basic however it serves what it needs to. Again nothing to call home about but also nothing to complain about. Would have been nicer to have cooked to order breakfast option for the cost of the overnight however what you needed for breakfast was there. All of this was brought to attention at checkout and we were given the extra purchases on the room at the sum of £58 comped as way of apology. This I appreciate however for a £385 trip which did not meet that value, it has still left a rather unfortunate taste in my mouth. I would not return to the hotel unless further improvements were made in the restaurant area in particular. Thank you for our stay and I truly hope this feedback is taken on board as the hotel absolutely could be a destination visit.

“Lovely Hotel and Spa but overpriced and not value for money”

Lovely hotel and spa my wife and i are regular visitors to weekend Spas but unfortunatly this failed to meet our expectations Some minor faults within the Spa and treatments and the hotel in general itself that force me to say its overpriced for what you get for your money
