I like to be fair in my reviews. I think that it would be fair to say that the Hotel industry in the UK has suffered, and us still suffering from the effects of covid and the current economic situation. The Riverside Lodge Hotel is currently going through being refurbished. Some rooms have been fully refurbished, others have been given a face lift, but still need things replacing. For instance furniture, bedding, mattresses and showers. So some rooms are better than others. I suggest check it out before booking. Public areas have all been completed. I can only comment on my experience. Room 261: is a large room with views looking onto the outside space towards the river. There are two huge beds. The mattress if the bed that I slept in is clearly old. But I didn't have any problems sleeping. The bedding is also old but is spotlessly clean. I would say that the sheet and pillowcases were 100% cotton. However the duvet cover was definitely polycotten. So if you get hot in bed it's not great. My shower was over the bath, but you can adjust the flow to get it to shower better. The furniture has seen better days. Also there is no fridge in the room, when room information on their website states there is. The room itself has been freshened up with a new coat of paint. It was acceptable to me. Food: Breakfast is buffet. Choice of hot and cold. Cold is minimum choice of fresh fruit and pastries. Some days only choice. Bread is white or brown. No home cooked breads at all. Juice is orange, apple and cranberry. Coffee and Tea is also help yourself. If you want boiled, fried or poached eggs it's by request. The only nodvtowards being in Scotland was the potato scone and porridge. Otherwise you could have been anywhere. Dinner: As I was part of a coach party we didn't eat from the restaurant menu. Our menu had very limited choice of 1 meat dish and 1 fish dish. Vegetarians got one choice only. If you were intolerant to any ingredients in your choice the only other option was a tasteless pasta in a tomato sauce. I think that came from the children's menu. I was also given the same vegetarian choice two nights running. To me that is not acceptable. I would suggest two vegetarian choices each night. The food was ok, but nothing special. I don't know what the food on the dinning room menu was like. Staff: the staff are this hotels best asset. They are friendly and helpful. Nothing is to much trouble. I must give praise to Stephanie, one of the managers who was very professional when one of our travel companions, who was a very G.O.M. was incredibly rude to one of the waitresses, making her cry. Stephanie was very professional in the way she told him that his behaviour was unacceptable. It good to see a companies management back there staff when this type of behaviour happens. Unfortunately in my experience still many businesses allow customers to get away with this type of behaviour. I would also like to mention that Stephanie also helped to find an earing that I lost. Nothing was to much trouble for her. She is a great asset to your team. Would I recommend this hotel. Yes I would. Even though it's not perfect and has work to do to get back to the standards of pre-covid, it is getting there. If we don't support these places then they won't be around in the future. To many businesses are being lost.

Been to the hotel many times. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Restaurant manageress very helpful husband disabled and she saved a suitable table for him. Room was a great size with a view of the gardens. Now the downside......breakfast. Lady at the table next to us ordered her chosen egg as only scrambled at the buffet. She got her bacon etc from buffet but the time the egg came it was cold. Because of this I waited until my poached egg arrived till I went to the buffet. But when I went up no bacon or sausages in tray. Waited , couldn't see a member of staff so just ate my egg before cold. Went to make my toast but no plates left. We will be back at the Riverside but they need to look at staffing at breakfast to make sure all areas are being checked and restocked. Only seemed to be 1 waitress on duty.
