The nights were quiet with no issues from other people and I slept very well, and it's only about an hour from Edinburgh, too.

“Cosy November stay”

The room was characterful and comfortable with a beautiful modern bathroom, ideally lit and with an additional magnified mirror. We had such a comfortable nights sleep and a delicious breakfast, with so many dishes to choose from, including a carefully prepared fruit salad.

“No Ticks Please”

The first impression of this hotel was the beautiful setting in its own grounds, on the edge of Selkirk. We checked in and we were told where our room was, which was a 50m walk from reception, but we could park our car outside the room. (Later on we discovered that this would cost us £8 per night)… lisää

The first impression of this hotel was the beautiful setting in its own grounds, on the edge of Selkirk. We checked in and we were told where our room was, which was a 50m walk from reception, but we could park our car outside the room. (Later on we discovered that this would cost us £8 per night). On entering we came down to earth, as the room was absolutely freezing. No heating on at all. Numerous heaters were present, but not one was switched on. This became the normal in most parts of the hotel. We had pre-ordered dinner, and decided to have a drink beforehand, only to find that the bar area was in the same state as our room, (freezing). We were told that this was not opened due to it being the quiet season? Was I a paying customer or not? You finish your evening meal, then you have to fill in a form on what you want for breakfast. Not only that you have to circle (NOT TICK) what you would like to eat. My wife forgot to add tea, and no tea was provided. After some gentle persuasion she got some tea, but it was pointed out to her that it was not on the sheet. How pathetic, I thought tea & coffee were staples for a breakfast. On the website the owners proudly state that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Don’t miss your milk out either, you will not get it. Sustainability taking precedence over paying guests. If you are looking forward to a nice restaurant, then forget it. If you would like to sit in a nice warm lounge have a drink before and after dinner, then forget it. It is not forthcoming at this hotel. There were 4 chairs provided around a gas fire, alongside 5 tables for diners, and that was it. If you cannot provide the basic facilities for guests, then why are you opened? Being a quiet period is no excuse. You are opened with all facilities or not. Not all doom and gloom. The food provided was excellent, and the room we were given (after being heated) was large, very clean, and comfortable. As a Best Western patron for many years, I must admit this was the worst hotel we have stayed in, and I’m afraid we will not be returning any time soon.
