We stayed for 3 nights and very much recommend the Ship Inn. The staff were friendly & attentive, the rooms were clean, quiet & well appointed. The beds were nice & comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights and very much recommend the Ship Inn. The staff were friendly & attentive, the rooms were clean, quiet & well appointed. The beds were nice & comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were good, working without a fuss. Breakfast was good with standard cereal/yogurt/juices as well as a decent selection of hot food. Good to see fresh fruit also available. In Stonehaven, you can't get a better location for accommodation than this, being right on the harbourfront.

“Quick trip to Stonehaven”

Lovely comfortable rooms, very clean and value for money. Fantastic location overlooking the harbour with a fantastic cooked breakfast included.

This is our favourite hotel location on the East Coast of Scotland. We prefer a room with a harbour view. This is our favourite hotel location on the East Coast of Scotland. We prefer a room with a harbour view. With the window open we hear the calming sounds of the waves as the tide laps up the clean sands towards the base of the sea wall. There is a road before the low sea wall but it is not a through road — quiet enough that everyone walks up the middle of it! A pair of friendly mallard ducks are often on the sands. And at night, the local heron stalks the shoreline. The atmosphere at this older end of town is very relaxed. There is a good path up a hill to the right as you come out of the Ship Inn which leads to a superb viewpoint over the harbour and can be followed for a mile to the ruins of Dunnottar Castle. To the left, it's a hundred steps through alleys to the boardwalk path which runs to a footbridge over the River Carron. The path continues to another one over the River Cowie. At the other end of the bay is a more tourist area of Stonehaven — much busier and more noisy. Back to Shore Head: It is clean outside with daily litter-picking. The Ship Inn staff are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms and public areas are thoroughly cleaned and comfortable. Food is good. We stay at the Ship Inn as often as possible, because it is so relaxing.

“Disappointing”

Sadly disappointing. Our first visit since the new owners took over. We were so looking forward to it. Sadly not nearly as good as it used to be. Battered fish and chips. What could go wrong? It was so overcooked that you had to break through the batter. Very dry fish inside. No one checked to see… lisää

It was so overcooked that you had to break through the batter. Very dry fish inside. No one checked to see if everything was ok. We mentioned when paying and were told. You should've said (and maybe we should have). We could've done something about it. Is it not normal to check that customers are happy with their service? No apology or offer of any discount for the plate of food still half full. We paid and left and sadly wouldn't rush back. It wasn't even busy so no excuse really. Also, when the lady behind the bar is chatting to a customer about his erection within three feet of you it's a bit off putting. We went to eat not to listen to that hence we didn't approach regarding our concerns. A bit of additional training wouldn't go amiss regarding customer expectations and plain old customer service.
