Went on a dog walk from LEWES along the river and went North to find this little hidden gem. A varied menu with specials on the board, there was a choice of Jamaican food or traditional fare. Spoilt for choice, I opted for a Beef Roast (it was a Sunday). My wife ordered a Jamaican dish. The food did not disappoint. Absolutely top quality and delicious. Service friendly and relaxed and efficient. We were looked after very well. Highly recommended. Dog friendly. Brilliant food. Great service. Thank you.

We arrived my wife thought outside shelter and furniture too tacky for our posh friends. I reminded my wife when were in the Caribbean islands this standard of 'make and mend' style was evident everywhere. I popped inside and scanned the speciality dishes of the day. Three different mains. I made a mental note of the pineapple and ginger with pork, peas and rice. Our friends arrived and very quickly agreed to stay there for our lunch. We had fried plantain, Cajun chicken burger, sweet potatoes fries, BBQ chicken wings. The Blacksmith Arms stocks Carib lager! An enjoyable moresome lager from Trinidad. Unfortunately I was designated driver, so restricted to one bottle(boo!hoo!). They also stock Dragon Stout(13% alc) two bottles is an ideal solution for insomniacs. Blissful deep sleep guarantee for me. We visited with our sprocker spaniel. Prior to our seating down we could only find a quiet lane to the left of the pub to walk our dog. What a delightful find. Lovely staff. We look forward to returning!

One of the other reviewers nailed it: very friendly, helpful owner/managers, yummy hot English breakfast, great tea, spotlessly clean room. We couldn't figure out how to mount the shower head so had to hold it, but otherwise a very comfortable stay. They even emailed us before checkin to see if we wanted to order dinner before the pub stopped serving food that night. As another review noted, it's not trying to be 5-star but deserves five star for the helpful service and the clean, spacious room. It is right on the main road, so there is a bit of traffic noise, but it's pretty quiet at night in my opinion. There's a lovely footpath (walk across the street toward the church, there's a little fence on the right side of the side street there).
