“Great stay”

We spent a long weekend at the hotel. Food and service were excellent. Our room was lovely and we had an excellent stay. The location is amazing. A big thanks to matt and the team for really making our stay wonderful, we will be returning in the autumn.

A fantastic location on Ullswater, this grand old hotel is showing some signs of distress, but it is clean, the staff are fantastic, and the food quality is top-notch, although the serving sizes are on the small size. A fantastic location on Ullswater, this grand old hotel is showing some signs of distress, but it is clean, the staff are fantastic, and the food quality is top-notch, although the serving sizes are on the small size. We had a room with garden access, fantastic for a walk down to the lake, but the paint on the bathroom ceiling was a little tired and peeling in places but overall, we enjoyed our stay and would visit again, and that is all anyone really needs to know.

“Beautiful setting”

Stayed for one night, nice comfortable room. Dinner was great, worth getting it included in your package, as it worked out better value. All of the staff were excellent, very professional and friendly. The grounds were nice and you can walk down to the lake at the front of the hotel. Good breakfas… lisää

All of the staff were excellent, very professional and friendly. The grounds were nice and you can walk down to the lake at the front of the hotel. Good breakfast with table service. Nice quiet location, had a great sleep. Only thing I would say is the frames of the windows and wooden shutters etc need updating. A lot of flaking paint, I understand it's an old building with original features. But it would look much better.

Recently stayed 2 nights on a Bed and Breakfast offer, the hotel is in a nice setting with a fabulous view of Ullswater. Recently stayed 2 nights on a Bed and Breakfast offer, the hotel is in a nice setting with a fabulous view of Ullswater. We booked a standard room but were left disappointed with the state of the toilet seat in the room. It was heavily stained with urine and did smell bad! Upon complaint we were given another room next door and the state of the loo was not acceptable with poo particles left in the bowl. Finally accepting the upgrade room we managed to settle in, we did notice, however other residents were at desk moving rooms too. Breakfast is cooked to order and was really great. Extra charges for non standard breakfast were charged for immediately @ £6 and a specialty coffee was a further £4. Tea is £5.50 in the hotel that includes fruit tea! I feel that is rather expensive. We probably would not return here as I think initial impressions with the stained toilet seat really tainted our stay.
