If you look past the exterior flaking paint, this is a lovely hotel. Yes it may look dated inside, but this actually adds to its traditional Lakeland charm. If you look past the exterior flaking paint, this is a lovely hotel. Yes it may look dated inside, but this actually adds to its traditional Lakeland charm. If you are able to secure a room at the back of the hotel, the views are lovely. We had upgraded to a king room and it was a good size. The bed was huge and everything was very clean. There was tea/coffee, water, iron, dressing gowns and a safe in the room. We ate in the restaurant and the meals were first class. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, exemplified by Basil on reception who was exemplary. There is also plenty of parking available. The grounds are lovely, and it's only a 5 minute walk down to the lake.

“Fabulous majestic hotel away from the crowds”

This is a beautiful hotel with incredible staff who cannot do enough for you. The views from the house are sublime with an easy walk down to the waterside. Half way up the lake it’s in the perfect spot away from the chaos of the main touristy spots Yes it’s old and tired in places but the service… lisää

“Lovely hotel but needs some investment”

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location - check in and waiting staff are fantastic. Hotel room was spacious but we did notice some mould and dust in the bathroom door with flaking paint on the bathroom ceiling. Lovely hotel in a fantastic location - check in and waiting staff are fantastic. Hotel room was spacious but we did notice some mould and dust in the bathroom door with flaking paint on the bathroom ceiling. The exterior of the hotel looks a little worn - paint flaking a some of the lovely barriers missing of the back of the hotel. I think in its prime it would easily be a 4 star hotel but currently, perhaps not. That said there’s a walk down to the lake which is lovely for some quiet time. When we arrived we were told there was a planned power outage till 5pm - I think what would have been more appropriate is a complementary text or email message so we could have planned around this. When we checked out the next day the receptionist barely spoke to us, which was a poor representation of the great customer service we received on check in, around the hotel with the other staff members and at breakfast. Overall, really nice stay but perhaps not value for money given the lack of investment in the hotel.
