“Excellent!”

Excellent stay. Lovely clean rooms with great views, restaurant is very good and, most importantly, the staff are excellent - both at breakfast, in the restaurant in the evening and at reception. The duty manager was always present and super helpful.

Most of the staff friendly, especially in the bar, though there is one tall female receptionist with ponytail I’ve encountered before who never cracks a smile and lets that side of things down. Rooms big and spacious. So what’s wrong? The pillows poor quality. The refreshment tray is utterly miserly : no water (leaving you with bathroom tap), no actual spoons but horrid little low-quality wooden sticks (anyone enjoy putting wood into their hot drinks and why on earth not just spoons?!), one of everything and disgusting industrial grade Nescafé. Couldn’t use it, the whole thing was so unsatisfactory. I’ve stayed there three times, this latest time unavoidable as I swore I’d not return. I took up the first two things privately at the time, but given I had yet another crap experience the third time I do feel people need to be sighted! First occasion, I came away with little bites all over me. Second occasion, last October, there was a fire drill in the early hours that was handled so shambolically by two blokes out of their depth who were either stupid or very poorly trained. There was utter disregard for guest safety - all they did was run round like headless chickens and not ONCE bother to do a head count - this in a 14 story hotel!!! Out of bed for about 90 minutes. Latest occasion, my air con packed in overnight on my first night. As these rooms have no ventilation it was unbearable in the without cool air con. They couldn’t fix it so I had to re-pack everything after being out all day and move rooms when I came back. So quite an interruption to a two-night stay. Unfortunately the person I had to deal with to report it was the tall, sour faced lady. Little by way of apology or “terribly sorry for the inconvenience”! To their credit, they did move me to an upgraded room - so that was appreciated. However in this suite they STILL provided the horrible wooden sticks for your coffee cups! So, a hotel that should have everything going for it has a lot that’s gone wrong for me over three stays. What a shame.
