“country experience”

This place was great. It is placed back on a little farm outside of Rome. Don't expect to get to it by anything but a car. The rooms were great and the breakfast was nice. I would recommend this to someone who wants to just get away from the hustle and bustle of the city

We had a lovely week long stay at the Rodrigo De Vivar. We were in rooms in Country - about 1km out of the village. As others have mentioned, arrival was a bit flakey - no-one there. We called the number on the note on the door, no answer. But then the cook arrived and let us in. We had booked 2 double rooms, but were in fact given an appartment with big living area (our son commandeered the cabin bed) and 2 double bedrooms, each with en-suite. Beds were comfy, rooms clean and well furnished and each room had a kettle, which was a nice plus for Italy. As this felt more like a holiday rental than a hotel, we were pleasantly surprised that the rooms were cleaned every day. TV carried mostly the Italian terrestrial channels, but we found BBC World to keep up with the news. Free WiFi is available for guests in the breakfast room, which kept our teenagers happy. The country location was lovely and quiet, less than 10 minutes walk from the Ostia Antica dig site (well worth a visit), and about 15 to the station where trains go into town every 15 minutes or so. (Trains run from early morning to late evening). Note however that there is no street-lighting between the rooms and the village - so we found ourselves using our car to shuttle back and forward between the village and the rooms in the evening. Breakfast was good - though a bit starch heavy - the buffet could have done with some fruit or something. We had 2 meals at the hotel restaurant and they were FANTASTIC and HUGE, and very reasonably priced. (30 Euros per head, wine, mineral water and coffee included.) I thoroughly recommend this as a great base for exploring Rome. Although it is close to the airport, I'm not so sure if it would be a good one-night stop-over. A certain "ambient level of chaos" that is fun and part of the charm over several days might be more than you want to deal with before or after a flight. A couple of practical tips: floors are tiled, so unless its high summer you probably want slippers. And even in late October there were mozzies, so take repellant and after-bite and appropriate clothes for the evening. (Not only at the hotel, but it was unseasonably warm.)

“Very far from everything”

I stayed one night at the hotel (luckily) and couldn't sleep one minute. You stay at cabins in the middle of some park and all through the night you hear noises in the ceiling. I don't know what it was, maybe the wind but it was making me nervous. I asked for the WiFi password and it never worked. … lisää

I don't know what it was, maybe the wind but it was making me nervous. I asked for the WiFi password and it never worked. Its like living in exile. The only way to get out of there is with a taxi and it costs a fortune. The hotel staff was friendly and it was clean although very old. My door didn't have a lock and that made me nervous. If you're a tourist visiting Rome please don't stay there. I would only advise to use this hotel if you are flying on the next day and have a very limited budget which was my case.
