Lovely elegant, yet cozy and personal place, excellent cuisine, spotlessly clean and friendly personnel . Best place to start to explore the beautiful Dolomits , Unesco site, the peaceful hiking paths and the duo-lingual friendly people and their culture. This used to be part of North Tirol until 1919, now part of Italy but everyone speaks Italian and German . Only drawback of the Hotel, the front building is close to the Bundes Strasse - but on the other hand, close to the Autostrada which will take you north to Austria and Germany and south to Rome!

“Wonderful family run restaurant”

We just turned down from the main highway to avoid major traffic jam and stumbled on this hotel and restaurant. Restaurant has lovely covered terrace with seating for at least 70 guests. We just turned down from the main highway to avoid major traffic jam and stumbled on this hotel and restaurant. Restaurant has lovely covered terrace with seating for at least 70 guests. A view from the terrace is stunning! I think we were greeted by the one of the owners. A lovely lady escorted us to our table. The place beams culture and refined taste of the owners. I'd say it's definitely a few degrees posher place than your average roadside restaurant. And that's a good thing. Menu is simple, not overflowing with choice and again that's a good thing. I'm rather tired of flipping through pages upon pages of food. They offer several local dishes and a little something for the smaller guests. We took ravioli, large noodles with mushrooms, meat, Spargel cream soup and a few juices. Food was very very good. As I said this is a bit posher place so the prices are a bit higher, but not crazy. Soup was €7, Spargel €8,50. All in all we are very pleased with out stay.

“A great family run hotel in beautiful Southern Tyrol”

Our stay at Der Rierhof was a last minute booking, which worked out fantastically. Looking on HRS.com there were other hotels which were either booked, expensive or had poor reviews. Looking at the reviews for Der Rierhof, its location and very competitive prices, we thought we would take a chance … lisää

Our stay at Der Rierhof was a last minute booking, which worked out fantastically. Looking on HRS.com there were other hotels which were either booked, expensive or had poor reviews. Looking at the reviews for Der Rierhof, its location and very competitive prices, we thought we would take a chance – we were happy that we did! The hotel was very easy to find, just off the A22 Autostrada and despite its name, Chiusa meaning “closed”, the little town looked very nice, despite us only having a few minutes to explore it. Chiusa (Klausen in German) is perfectly situated for Bolzano, walking/trekking on the Seiser Alm (which we did and can thoroughly recommend) and a little further, Merano. Although we had only booked for one night via HRS.com, we asked if it was possible for a second night. After a quick check, although the hotel was busy, the reply was “no problem. You will have to change rooms, but we will move your bags across to the new room”. We later found out when paying the bill they had charged us exactly the same price had we booked 2 nights via HRS.com. This is the main thing that stuck in all of our minds – the staff, especially Evelyn, were very helpful, friendly and polite. The hotel, as is the whole of Southern Tyrol, is popular with German speaking tourists, but with our knowledge of German and Evelyn’s first class English, nothing was a problem and all of our questions answered, and information and suggestions provided. We even got to experience Schlager singing! Our first night was in the newer part of the hotel, where the rooms were very good – large, well equipped, clean and spotless. We actually had family rooms with extra beds, a little seating and cooking area although there were only 1 of use in one room and 2 people in the other. Our second night was in the older part of the hotel, which was (in fairness) not as good as the newer part. The rooms were more traditional, smaller and we all mentioned, noisier – we had rooms at the front of the hotel, where you could hear the noise from the road and the train line. If we had more time, we would have liked to enjoy the wellness facilities on offer and the inside swimming pool and relaxing area looked very good. The food at Der Rierhof was also very good – a buffet style breakfast with lots of choice and in the evenings, enough variety on the menu to keep us happy during our stay. The quality of the food, price and service were also super. We were very happy with our visit and would stay again. When we book, we will make sure that we get rooms in the newer part of the hotel as they are simply much better and everything is there, very close to hand. Thanks to everyone at Der Rierhof for making our stay very enjoyable. And special thanks to Evelyn for being so kind and helpful – maybe you will get to practice you English again, next time we are there!
