The hotel is almost perfect. The location is fabulous. It's off a buzzy square right in the heart of Venice but approached via an short alleyway, meaning it is just far enough away from the crowds to be quiet. We never heard any noise at night, for example. St Mark's Square is maybe 15 minutes walk way, the Rialto Bridge is 5 minutes walk away and you will see it on the grand canal if you have breakfast at the hotel. The room we were in was mostly excellent. It has a bit of character, the bed was comfortable, slightly unusual room - not your bog standard hotel room. The shower was great. Our room did have a couple of flaws though (in my view, others may not mind) - first the lights are fiddly. There are multiple switches, for instance one switch marked 'art' for the artwork (we didn't really have any artwork in our room) controls some of the lights, as well as the other switches - the one marked 'lights' only controls maybe half the lights. One night we just couldn't turn off all the lights no matter how much we tried. Secondly, the loo door does not shut completely - there is a gap of maybe 2 cm. I am typically English and if I'm on the loo, I want the door to be 100% closed and have complete privacy. Not sure why the sliding door does not completely shut. Finally, the restaurant. Slightly surprised by the mixed reviews I read. The restaurant in my opinion is excellent. We had our best meal in Venice here by a country mile - even though we also ate in 2 of the TripAdvisor top 10 restaurants. The food is better, the service better and you won't be rushed like the other two restaurants we went to that just wanted to get us in and out quickly. And the view is fabulous, right by the canal. Breakfast is also great there, but dinner is the better food. We would definitely go again but I would ask for a room where the loo door shuts completely and an instruction manual for the lights. The hotel is perfect other than these minor points.

Hotel was nice and had a moody dark vibe inside. The staff at the front desk were very helpful in assisting with transportation, activity, and meal planning. The hotel has an odd layout as it’s situated between a few buildings but during checkout we got a tour to our room which helped. We wished the lighting in our room could have been brighter at times but we made do. You could play the hotel music in your room. Breakfast downstairs was phenomenal and I would highly recommend going to dinner here as well! The meals made up for the quirks of the hotel for sure!

“Superb and just shy of perfect”

OK so let me give a useful review for those confused by the mixed feedback. If you are a four seasons lover where it is all about total convenience and minimalist comfort, this is not the hotel for you. If you love the boutique feel blended with stunning historical architecture and artistic value then this is heaven. The hotel reception, lobby, and bar is just stunning, every detail is thought through and the service and food is exceptional. The deck outside the restaurant is the most perfectly positioned in Venice, pure candy for the eyes as the Venice traffic passes at its own pace. The overall service is exceptional, Claudia on reception planned a whole day visits to Murano and Burano and it was superbly executed while staying in communication on WhatsApp to ensure everything happens on time. The rooms are stunning, the bed is amazingly comfortable and the design is fabulous. The lighting system is the only slight reservation I had as I am a techy and it is unnecessarily complex and challenging at times. No plugs to side of bed is an issue for me as I have a CPAP machine but they do have USBC sockets: Location is top notch, just short of the Rialto bridge, you are able to get to almost anywhere by foot within 10-15 mins and the simplicity of being able to land and depart in a boat is superb. The spa is not a full spa but a treatment groom and a private room with an indoor pool and Turkish bath which can be rented out for extra. The therapists were fantastic and the Turkish bath so cool. Overall, this is an exceptional location and a wonderful treat. Perfect for couples or parents with elder kids. Not where I would take younger kids for fear of breaking something. Fix the lighting and it is a full 5/5

“Vegas in Venice”

I was so excited to stay at this chic and design-forward hotel. Is there such a thing as being too design forward? If so the Venice Venice may be it. The hotel is so dark, both in lighting and vibe. I was so excited to stay at this chic and design-forward hotel. Is there such a thing as being too design forward? If so the Venice Venice may be it. The hotel is so dark, both in lighting and vibe. There was a goth feeling throughout the property, from the ambience to the way our room was decorated. It all felt a little theme-y, more than a touch Vegas, and not as high end as I expected. (Can a hotel give you ick? The bathrooms here did.) We had considered a number of luxury hotels for our trip and ultimately wish we chose a different one. The one saving grace: Breakfast overlooking the Grand Canal was unbelievably gorgeous — and might have made the (steep) cost of entry worth it.
