Wonderful place to stay if You are going to visit Austria. Famillien Gasthof Shranz is 3* hotel conducted by extremly friendly crew. Yes - not Staff because They are better. Everyday you'll be cordial welcome with sincere smile. Hotel restaurant serve tastefull meals. Breakfast's are being served as Swedish table with plenty of different food. Dinners are also awesome. After all-day skiing or other activity You'll get huge meal chosen day before from short menu. Rooms are big and bright, equiped in flat tv and radio. Gasthof has good working free wifi network, so You can stay in touch with family and friends. Each room has balcony - if You are travelling with friends, You can chose two rooms. Thanks to that You can meet at balcony with temporary open / close wall. If You come to Familien Gasthof Schranz in winnter You can leave SKI / SNB equipment in skiroom with heated hangers.

A typical Austrian rural hotel in a tranquil, open wally with areas for skiing, hiking, biking, etc. and great mountains around. For the the skiing areas Gerlos, etc. you may go by bus. To reach a greater area of Zillertal you need a car. I have just been there in winter several times, and will be back again in February 2012. If you are looking for intense afterski events or nightclubs, forget it. If you rather like a calm afternoon or evening in the bierstiube with a nice glass of beer, wine or a coctail, you're welcome.

“Good place for lunch with friendly staff, bring your own electrical fly swatter”

The staff is very friendly. They do their best effort to say some sentences in the guest language. The food is good and the gordon blue is gigantic. The only poor point is the high amount of flies. The staff is very friendly. They do their best effort to say some sentences in the guest language. The food is good and the gordon blue is gigantic. The only poor point is the high amount of flies. There are fly swatters on almost every tabel. Next time I will bring my electrical fly swatter. Much more effective. The waiter made a joke that swatting a fly adds 10 Euro cent to the bill. Six years ago we had here lunch too. Also a lot of flies. So the flies did not prevent us from comming back to this place. That should say enough. If it was a bad place we would not come back. So we recommend the restaurant, but bring your own electrical fly swatter

“The owners friendliness and care makes up for few minuses”

I have been there approx. 6 times in various groups. Ideally this is a family hotel or ok for a couple. Not so good for a larger group of friends as it is very peaceful and relatively quiet after 9.PM. Excellent atmosphere, created by very friendly owners, happy to drop a joke, have a chat, advise, help or take care of anything needed. Fabulous traditional food, both if you are on half board or select a la carte. Try their steak, it is out of this world. Rooms - they have half of rooms renovated (status of 2012) and the other half is little dated and also feels a bit cold, but very clean and overall acceptable. But one wishes to be in the renovated side so I would recommend to book it upfront. We always took own car to the slopes (ca 5 km steep ascend - make sure you have good winter tires,) Keep your ski pass on you as it gets you through the little toll station on the way to the main Chair Lift or Cable Car. There is also a free ski Bus, however we wanted to be totally independent, therefore the car. Skiing in Zillertal Arena is fun, when the weather is good, then it is slightly too easy for an experienced skier. Good for families with kids.
